Wow, I got two-cakes'd on this pinch hit so hard. On the one hand, I'm glad for my recip, who is a good egg and deserves all the treats. On the other, if I'd known someone else was going to give them the same pairing, the same tropes and 8k more words I might have stressed less about mine!

Dear assignment author, holy cow. This is so good. I've done Yuletide for a long time now, and I never have really any expectations of my giftfic. In all these years I've had maybe one fic that really blew my mind technically, and none that really stole my breath emotionally. It's not the fault of my writers! I'm just really picky in general even outside of exchanges, and I love and appreciate and absolutely am warmed to the cockles of my heart and gush etc, they just don't really reach me no matter how much I want them to. BUT TODAY YOU TOOK THAT STREAK AND SNAPPED IT OVER YOUR LEG. I honestly feel like you've combed through my history and written me like the most perfect, absolutely bespoke fic that anyone could ever write for me. I can't say this in my comment to you, which will be long and incoming soon, because it's just plain rude to my other generous writers from over the years, but this!!! Is!!!! Peak!!!! Yuletide!!!!!!

This Yuletide, I give my author the blessing I give every Yuletide: not reading my gift-fic for the first 12-24 hours that the archive is open, and thus allowing my author to discover and hurriedly correct every missing comma or lingering typo in their fic.

Don't worry, author! I 100% did not see your earliest version with all the errors! You're welcome, author!

that's not a yuletide gift, technically - from reading the whole thread, it was gifted to the recip outside the yuletide collection after the recip said they weren't fond of poetry in response to a mod question. it's poetry.
