Don't Stop Coal Now!

Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real coal time
I feel alive
And the exchange I'll turn it inside out, yeah
I'm floating around in agony
So, (don't stop me now)
(Don't stop me)
'Cause I'm having a coal time, having a coal time~

I got poorly written barely over 1000 words coal, no treats, and my recip left kudos on my fic but no comment. I feel special today, surrounded by all this minimum effort!

As a recip who only left kudos and no comments, I'm working today, am just at the start of a 24 hour shift. I might or might not have time to comment closer to the evening, but in any case, hearing "minimum effort" about a kudos on the first day just makes me roll my eyes.

Hey, coalie... that really sucks, and I'm sorry you're stuck working that long a shift, EVER, much less on what may be a holiday for you... but that's what the AFK post is for. :)

No. The AFK post is for saying you're offline / unable to read until the New Year or at least for a significant amount of time. It's not for saying "I'm not going to leave a comment on day one (but will comment on the second or third day after reveals)". If an author really expects a day one comment, they need to adjust their attitude.

Wrong, very wrong, bad trolling.

I have been doing Yuletide for 12 years and when an author hasn’t responded in the first day or two (or through the entire anon period), I have never once checked that post.

It's not actually a holiday for me, but thank you.

It wouldn't occur to me to use the AFK post for an absence of less than two days. It seems other coalies concur with me in that regard. I'm just at work. A lot of essential workers are. We do Yuletide too.

+1

And when we DO get off work, we have our family Christmas gifts, dinner, etc. that still need to be fit in around our shifts. Christmas week is one of the busiest of the year for me.

There's just very little time to write the kind of comments I always do (and that I want to give to these awesome gifts). Sure, I could rush out a "thanks for writing for me, this is awesome!," but that's not me.

I am sure your writer was thrilled you took the time to do something...as many writers routinely get nothing from their recips. I hope you will find time to go back! I did that last year.
