Don't Stop Coal Now!

Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real coal time
I feel alive
And the exchange I'll turn it inside out, yeah
I'm floating around in agony
So, (don't stop me now)
(Don't stop me)
'Cause I'm having a coal time, having a coal time~

Since when does "standard etiquette" include DNWing characters you requested? I've never seen anyone say that outside of this thread.

I’ve never seen anyone explain why you couldn’t with full consideration of how matching works. There’s literally no good reason you have to give a shit about it, except that it’s a loophole and boo hoo you really wanted to write that exact gen dynamic but weren’t guaranteed the opportunity.

SA And no, I am not saying that the person in question could have expected not to get A&B in this particular instance.

Because you can't DNW the things you explicitly requested, period. That's the case in every single exchange. It doesn't matter how matching works, if you requested something and are matchable on it, you need to be willing to actually get it.

You can't hem your author in. But your author could have easily matched on someone who just requested A. If you select A and B, and say you only want A/B or A, you are not restricting your author any more than you would have by making a different legal request they happened to match on.

+1

Also, there are a ton of previous examples of recips DNWing something they requested in the character/relationship field, but in a way that doesn't hem in their assigned authors. The most common one that I've seen is in ship-matching exchanges: recip requests A/B and A/C and says in their optional details, "Please only write me A/B or A/C fic--I DNW a story that contains both ships."
