There was some speculation from various users including EO about whether or not the recip was new to exchanges/a good fit for exchanges and EO specifically went back through the recip's gift history and noted they'd rejected a gift and deleted their original comment on it, and they said that was "interesting."

Things EO actually said (verbatim, but not necessarily chronological):

- They just didn’t like their gift for whatever reason so they’re lying to try to get another one
- The fact that they think they deserve an EPH for this is so laughable
- Yeah there’s literally nothing wrong with this except the recip being picky for ?? some reason???
- This is suuuuch a bad faith straight up lie.
- But yeah either way their claim is total bullshit
- I wouldn’t call it a lie under other circumstances, but what they’re saying is straight up untrue
- Like I try not to leap to calling people liars but

I don't want to inflict further scrutiny on the recip so I'm not going to try to look them up, but speaking as someone who's considered rejecting a gift and deleting my comment on it because it made me feel bad and I regretted trying to say nice things about it... EO can fuck right off

From upthread, EO later said this when he got pushback about this:

"Yeah I can’t really keep going on this personally because it’s a sore spot for me to get this into the weeds of whether my word choices are the perfect ones for a situation so I’m going to mute, but I do just want to say that I’m operating from the “untrue” definition especially when it’s making accusations about others"

Incredibly funny that he would try to do this after accusing the recip of lying so emphatically and in phrases like "bad faith straight up lie" where the possibility that he might be using "lie" in some neutral way that describes only untruth and not intentional deception is not merely slim, it is zero.

My assumption is it's a gift EO wrote for them. That would also explain how he knew the comment had been deleted, because I sure as hell wouldn't notice that on any fic but my own.

Since we're posting details, I do think it's important to know that while I do not agree with EO on calling them an outright liar, the context of this was the recip claiming two seemingly contradictory reasons for why they wanted the EPH.

First reason: The fic is a rewording of their letter and prompts
Second reason (after the first was rejected): The fic is character bashing

How did the RS mod know it wasn't a rehash of the recipient's prompt/letter if the gift was too squicky for them to read in the first place? Like, did they ask the server for the rehash check, rejected, then asked the server again for the bash DNW, and rejected again?

The recip's own response is posted here in this very thread. They only mentioned character bashing while accepting the mod's decision, saying that aspect combined with the first made them wary, but thank you for looking into this. It was supporting information for why they asked in the first place. You are being extremely ungenerous.

(If this is the fic I'm thinking it is) I don't think these are contradictory at all, in a YMMV way. If the recip sees it as very close to the prompt, but with unrequested homophobia and homophobic slurs as character bashing, that aligns with those given reasons.

Or we can say fuck nuance and the recip is throwing spaghetti at the wall, I guess!

Okay, if it's the one I'm thinking it is:
- The fic contains parts that appear to be copy-pasted from recip's prompts moving around a word here and there, the kind of thing that would count as plagiarism in a college essay. It's a small portion of the fic, but it's noticeable.
- One character is hardly recognizable and Evil in a way that just looks like bad writing to me, but I can see why it read as character bashing to the recip, especially after looking at their prompts.

A minimum of 18 mods were in the server when this was being "discussed" and nobody bothered to take a look?

That first quote made my eyes pop out of my head and I got stuck in a loop of 1) reread the part where you said "verbatim" 2) reread the quotes. This happened at least thrice because I still kept trying to read it as a bad faith paraphrase instead of...verbatim...
