EPH coalie here - I haven't followed this thread closely after confirming it was me, but I just saw this and I'd like to ask if there's anything that can be done about it? They just get to do this and then pretend nothing ever happened? Anyone who's gone through something similar? Some of you know who I am and can reach out to me on discord.

Something like this already happened to me in the past when I found out that people in my fandom (some of whom I knew and trusted) were mocking me for my ships and stuff like that. Multifandom exchanges have been a way for me to move on from that and find enjoyment in fanfiction again. Having to experience this shit all over again, from mods at that, is horrible. I frankly don't understand why these people get to know my name but I don't get to know theirs. Nor do the other participants, who have no way to avoid them.

Just posting this here and maybe coming back after my shift. I appreciate the warm comments from coalies I've seen.

As someone who backread the conversation in that discord myself, I'll say that I never got a mocking tone from what was said. It was more bafflement that what seemed to have filled your prompt well from an outsider's perspective and didn't have a DNW was so bad from your perspective that it might require an EPH. When you gave a second reason after the first reason wasn't enough for the EPH, there was more confusion that you hadn't included that second reason in the first email, and that's when it seemed like you were just fishing for any reason that would get the EPH. EO did come into the conversation with a pretty shitty bad-faith take, but mostly everyone else in the conversation was just trying to understand why you thought the EPH was needed, and that speculation took off in a way that it often does in every other discord about BFE I've ever seen.

Your emails were never quoted in their entirety, only snippets, or paraphrased. No one was judging your ships or your taste.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't get the impression that there is any particular bad faith against you among anyone else but EO and the RS mod. It really was just trying to figure out what made the piece so bad, since it had seemed fine and like it was fulfilling your prompts very well. You've been a fine participant in one exchange I run, and this didn't change my opinion of you.

I don’t even think there was animosity from the RS mod. I think they should have been more discreet, but the tone I got from them was more anxiety than umbrage.

"you really can't please everyone no matter what you do" <- implying recip has unreasonably high standards

"maybe they're just throwing spaghetti at the wall trying to figure out which buttons to push to get another gift" <- speculating that recip calculating and greedy

"i'm just like have they never gotten a gift they felt 'meh' about before?? just leave a short comment and move on*" <- mocking them for overreacting

1 and 3 are not mocking in the context I read them in.

2 and 4 are absolutely bad faith. I don't know if they're precisely mocking but they're as unpleasant as mocking. They're implying the recipient is calculating and greedy, which is completely uncalled for.

If you parent some up, you'll also see some mod coalies trying to gaslight me into believing that I was wrong to assume so, and maliciously contradicting the mod coalies who were being honest. Thankfully I haven't seen my first email being posted on coaltide*, but if you really want to prove that, unlike my other email, it wasn't leaked on discord, you're welcome to send me evidence privately. Or link a screenshot on coal for other participants.
*However, some "It's not that bad / There's only one asshole" coalie made sure to post revealing information about my EPH request, which I find to be both in bad faith and bad taste

Hey coalie, happy to discuss this in private. I tried searching your AO3 username on EAD/Yuletide/FFA but no luck. If there's some other way I can reach out then I'd be glad to do so. I think, at the very least, you deserve to know the RS mod's identity so you can avoid them in the future.

I totally get it if you're not interested in engaging with the RS mods any further, but I feel like it would be reasonable to send them a follow-up email linking to this thread and letting them know how inappropriate it was for them to post your email correspondence and open you up to negative speculation in this way.
