Aquatics is a genuine asshole but unfortunately the fact that their wank usually involves either kink related stuff or lingering on pinch hit lists means they have a bunch of devoted defenders.

Their Nazi fetish and the fact they request fandoms no one ever wants to write over and over again is only the tip of the iceberg.

That's just the thing, though. People aren't wanking about them for being an asshole (if they did, more power to them!). They're wanking about things like the Nazi kink or lingering on PH lists, which are perfectly okay. If you tell people "here's why aquatics sucks" without resorting to anti logic or throwing the rest of us frequent PHs under a bus, you'll get much more agreement. But I strongly suspect that nonnies and coalies wank about the things they do because they genuinely believe those are ~problematic and not because they just want to wank about a single asshole participant.

Frequent PHs are assholes, sorry. Once or twice and I believe that you genuinely didn't know that this combo of fandoms would be a difficult fill, if you're doing it all the time you just plain don't care about how difficult of a participant you're being as long as you get your gift story.

This is why it's so hard to criticize them without drawing out defenders: their shitty behavior is wrapped up in their Nazi fetish and frequent initial pinch hit status.

There's nothing inherently wrong with having a fetish, or with frequently going out to pinch hits. But the specific behavior around those things from Aquatics is what makes them shitty. They have a favorite fandom and they're going to push it anywhere and everywhere, and when that doesn't work they're going to try and bait people into showing interest by making a bunch of iddy comments about it while deliberately obscuring the fandom and hoping someone will bite, and when that doesn't work they say oh well and sign up for as much shit as possible because someone'll probably write it for them eventually.

I've tried to pimp my tiny fandoms on FFA and in exchanges before and have been met with crickets. It's a bummer! But being a pushy asshole about it, trying to bait and switch people who've already expressed disinterest, and admitting that you're basically using exchanges as a custom order factory is being an asshole.

The problem with Aquatics is that they're an asshole, not that they kink on Nazis, but the specific form their assholery takes is a refusal to accept that Nazi kink is really fucking niche. That's the common thread behind both the bait-and-switch Desert Peach promotion on FFA and their chronic pinch hit status.

A normal person with a Nazi kink would recognize that most people a) don't want to read about Nazis and b) don't want to write about Nazis, and tailor their anon meme and exchange behavior accordingly. Aquatics has decided that if they just badger everyone enough they'll be able to recruit people into their fandoms, which is both stupid, because Nazis are not some kind of acquired taste that you're bound to pick up if people coax you to try them enough times, and incredibly obnoxious.

I don't at all see how that makes someone an asshole. That's literally the point of exchanges. As long as you put as much work in your assignment to make your recip happy, it doesn't matter if you're being a "difficult participant" by the way of requesting rare things. This attitude is really foreign and kind of terrible to me.

Exchanges are exchanges. Someone writes a fic, they get a fic. As long as a fandom/pairing/trope is within the scope of the exchange, it’s not doing anything wrong.

Hate aquatics all you like but being against people who are PHs (regular or otherwise) means that you don’t understand the purpose of exchanges. If you want something where fics go up regardless and everyone who writes isn’t guaranteed a gift, exchanges aren’t for you.

The rarity is only an issue in that it means they pull nasty shit to try to get what they want because they can't get it any other way. If we're using rape as the equivalent, it'd be like someone signing up requesting only noncon to every freeform exchange where that was possible, except in this hypothetical scenario, no one else kinks on noncon.
