This is why it's so hard to criticize them without drawing out defenders: their shitty behavior is wrapped up in their Nazi fetish and frequent initial pinch hit status.

There's nothing inherently wrong with having a fetish, or with frequently going out to pinch hits. But the specific behavior around those things from Aquatics is what makes them shitty. They have a favorite fandom and they're going to push it anywhere and everywhere, and when that doesn't work they're going to try and bait people into showing interest by making a bunch of iddy comments about it while deliberately obscuring the fandom and hoping someone will bite, and when that doesn't work they say oh well and sign up for as much shit as possible because someone'll probably write it for them eventually.

I've tried to pimp my tiny fandoms on FFA and in exchanges before and have been met with crickets. It's a bummer! But being a pushy asshole about it, trying to bait and switch people who've already expressed disinterest, and admitting that you're basically using exchanges as a custom order factory is being an asshole.

The problem with Aquatics is that they're an asshole, not that they kink on Nazis, but the specific form their assholery takes is a refusal to accept that Nazi kink is really fucking niche. That's the common thread behind both the bait-and-switch Desert Peach promotion on FFA and their chronic pinch hit status.

A normal person with a Nazi kink would recognize that most people a) don't want to read about Nazis and b) don't want to write about Nazis, and tailor their anon meme and exchange behavior accordingly. Aquatics has decided that if they just badger everyone enough they'll be able to recruit people into their fandoms, which is both stupid, because Nazis are not some kind of acquired taste that you're bound to pick up if people coax you to try them enough times, and incredibly obnoxious.
