LOTS of eligibility modding comes down to subjective decisions. Yuletide mods decide every year that some subsets of megafandoms are distinct and others are not. Femslashex mods decide every year which characters are nonbinary enough. Mods make calls about which fics violate DNWs or are incomplete. There's no reason for "no fluffy Nazis" to be the only thing that has to be objective.

And people have issues with the subjective decisions all the time. No one said it was the only thing that had to be objective, but nice straw man.

And yet, those exchanges continue to function. Femslashex ran this year with literal male characters in the tagset, you can handle a mod banning Moe Nazis.

I don't care about nazis, I'll continue to criticize all mods making stupid decisions.

criticize

You misspelled "wanking about".

Yes, and when mods make subjective decisions about canons they're not familiar with, they ask exchange participants who are for help.

In this case, you'd be asking Desert Peach fans if the Nazis are too fluffy to be included.

They ask people who know those canons, not necessarily people who like them. It'd be pretty stupid if saying "the Tom Bombadil chapter is not a distinct fandom from LOTR" disqualified you from offering your input, wouldn't it? People read Barr's output and tell us this is Nazi fetish fuel. As a mod, I'm not gonna go "you're not a fan, so I don't have to listen to you."

No, sorry, I can't understand what this means. Do you mean, if I read a couple of issues of Batman, I'm now qualified to make a statement on things like...what does or doesn't happen in the entire run of Batman, what values it represents, and how it portrays female characters?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, unless someone could make a coherent argument that the issues you read were unrepresentative, I absolutely think that reading, like, 25% of a canon would qualify you to offer your opinion. Creepy Nazi Nonny has made no attempt to argue that the first quarter of DP is unrepresentative, they keep shooting for "if you keep reading it, a magical process of mind transformation will occur."

"if you keep reading it, a magical process of mind transformation will occur."

That's just it. I've been there, and I've never seen them say that. Or anything about people getting converted into Nazi fetish either.

It takes a certain kind of person to formulate a level-headed argument about the relative representativeness of single issues of a comic while someone is yelling in your ear about what a creepy Nazi you are, and I don't think they're that person.

Yeah, no, this shifting the blame shit ain't gonna work. The canon doesn't radically change midway through, aquatics just thinks that if people get far enough into it, they'll somehow HAVE to be okay with the Nazi kink. This is how they act when reccing the canon and when reccing fics, and that's with people they *haven't* decided to scream threats at.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, all this stuff about Aquatics assuming people will get converted into Nazi kink if they read far enough is just you mindreading?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe since you're so knowledgeable, you can explain what happens in canon after the point where everyone who doesn't have a Nazi fetish throws it against the wall, if the idea behind whining about how people just haven't read enough of it isn't "you will come to love or at least tolerate the fluffy Nazis."

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
DA, but actually what happens is the war ends, the former Wehrmacht people are all miserable and guilt-wracked, and the Peach goes to Hell for it. Literally. (I haven't read the later parts, because all reports is they were objectively awful regardless of ideology. But that is in fact how canon ends. Have none of ya'll even read the wikipedia summary?)

Like I haven't followed any of the ffa links and don't know Aquatics from Anathema, so I'd willingly believe they pretend that bit didn't happen, but "Pfirsich wanders Hell in torment because of his support for Hitler" is the entire last section of canon.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-03 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Is there a specific point you're thinking of?

I'm not interested in making anyone love the fluffy Nazis. My "you haven't read enough of it" has been about people who have read 25% making claims or assumptions about what happens or doesn't happen in the other 75%, and then wanking over it.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, it's like humans will judge other humans by their behavior or something.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
What is the point of insisting that people who don't like it keep reading it?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, screaming threats? When and where?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I suppose it's theoretically possible that they weren't the person telling nonnies who didn't like Nazi kink to kill themselves or get raped, the other day on coal.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Give me a break. The only people I can see reaching that low are the few legit trolls from ffa. The one who started half a dozen new threads after getting screened and accused the mods of being pro-nazi seemed genuinely unhinged.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
So what's supposed to happen when we keep reading Desert Peach after dropping it because we don't kink on Nazis? What's going to change our minds?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a great example because Batman has had many writers, while DP is by one person who thinks the Jews are grateful to her for finally telling the real story of World War Two.
