The trappings would be the fact that the main character is the brother of a famous Nazi serving in a Nazi army, and the erasure would be the fact that instead of doing the stuff the Wehrmacht was actually doing in North Africa like putting all the Jews in concentration camps where they died of typhus, this unit is just sitting around in the desert being wacky "stray puppies", to quote the author.

It's not a nuanced depiction of the lives of ordinary Germans under Nazism because the setup has been deliberately constructed so as not to confront the characters with difficult choices. They don't have to think about what it means to fight the Allies on behalf of Hitler (or conversely, let the Red Army overrun Germany) because the Allies mysteriously have no interest in attacking them. They're not being sent to do the easy or cannon-foddery shit you assign your obviously quirky and defective soldiers to do like machine-gunning civilians into trenches or besieging Stalingrad because the High Command has, for equally mysterious reasons, decided to let them spend the war sitting around in the desert with their thumbs up their asses. It's borderline apologetics, designed to generate characters as close to Nazis as humanly possible without actually making them complicit in anything bad.

If you want to kink on Nazi uniforms without getting shit for it, dress some guy up in an SS uniform and then send him shopping for bread on a made-up continent, don't do this crap.

How is this any different than saying that the bodice ripper genre is "borderline rape apologetics"? Their kink is problematic, no kidding, but we don't go around saying that other people need to have sufficiently realistic depictions of their kinks.

And anyway, if they are actually kinking on the uniforms or whatever, surely it's less problematic if they're kinking on characters who aren't brutally oppressing and murdering people?

Americans have had to deal with 9/11 terrorism porn peddled across something like fifty movies by now and politicians that fuck over first responders and soldiers trotting it out at minimum twice a year.

Americans also birthed the KKK, which is where Nazis pulled a good majority of their bullshit from.

They are also dealing with a huge revival of Nazism and have an actual Nazi as president.

To be honest, as an American I think that would be hilarious.

Also I'm not sure how you know what continent coalies are typing from, or how WW II factors into their personal history. I was born over here, but most of what should have been my generation in my family wasn't born anywhere because two thirds of the family got gassed. Nazis aren't an abstraction to me.

(I also think CYRT's argument is dumb as bag of rocks, but this kind of baseless ad hominem is not a refutation of it.)
