Anyone know what works this refers to? I skipped FIAB this year so I can't figure it out, but people are saying it was easy to find.

After a little bit of sleuthing, I believe it's the Sandman (comics) fills (plus two other art pieces in different fandoms for the same recipient). All the details match up - and honestly, I don't think the art is so bad, I like the pencil colours and shading, and there are some nice stylistic choices made, even if there is certainly also room for improvement.
I can only assume OP viewed them less charitably and more brattily because they were hoping for "more" (longer fics etc.) to dig their teeth into upon reveals, and then were disappointed by two very short fics and a lot of relatively "simple" art.

where do we stand on including minor (unrequested) crossovers in gift fics. it wouldn't be plot wise, more like a single character from the other canon appearing, and it's something my recip would almost 100% be aware of but I can't figure out if they've watched it/how they feel about it.
Very high-risk move IMO. Personally, even as someone who will read and enjoy full-on crossover fics, I dislike these kinds of minor crossover cameos and find it throws me out of the story to have some rando from a different canon show up when it's not part of the main premise of the story I signed up for. (There's also a lower but non-zero risk of having picked a crossover fandom/character that the recipient will be more specifically annoyed by, especially if it's a well-known fandom where they're likely to have formed at least some opinion if only, "Ugh, can everyone please stop talking about X?") OTOH, some people do actively enjoy and get a kick out of Easter egg-type references and cameo characters! But I wouldn't risk it in a gift fic without at least a clear indication they're into and up for crossovers in general.

You could probably run it on SquidgeWorld. Or as a wholly Dreamwidth-based exchange, though that would make the anonymous creator aspect much more of a headache for the mods.
small vent - for all those ppl who complain that fic writers cause more wank than fan artists and fan artists do nothing wrong ever, i have hardly ever since the days of kitty de sade seen any fic writer who claimed they wrote without knowing the canon. and i have seen plenty artists who have done this. i have received more than one art gift across a wide swathe of exchanges where artists have straight up admitted this. some have got away with it pretty well and a couple have drawn the characters way, way ooc or with the wrong hair color or clothing styles etc.
so nobody is innocent and wank-free in exchanges, not writers, not artists, not recips even. we all are wankers in the end.

I've gotten canon blind art before and frankly i don't care, all my fandoms are so assblastingly rare that it's the only art that exists and i'm grateful for the crumbs of garbage I receive

Yes, especially in smaller exchanges. I can't always do it that much in Yuletide because it's a big exchange with alot of rare fandoms I'm just not familiar enough, but I do intend to, if I have time over the holidays.

I thought my Yuletide fic for last year bombed because it only got 5 kudos last year. But it got almost 30 more over the course of the year.
I think it's kind of funny you posted this on both memes, but I can't complain when it's something pleasant and innocuous. Congrats, coalie, it's nice when something has a steady stream of readers. Sorry it felt like it bombed at first, but that would tell me that people who click on it are really happy to have found it.

Someone anonymously but identifiably bitches about believing their writer used AI, and everybody wanks to the death over whether this entirely typical just-over-minimum blandly mediocre story is a perfectly normal Yuletide gift or very obviously AI-written, with bonus side wank over whether it qualifies as badfic or is a perfectly decent story people would have been happy to receive.
