one of them dnws humiliation, child abuse, torture, brain washing/mind control too

like how do you request a canon and then dnw most of the canon?

how exactly do you expect someone to write about jaenelle and karla, who bonded over their creepy uncles wanted to rape them, when you aren't allowed to mention incest or rape? these themes are super important to both characters and literally formed their personakities

how is worldbuilding supposed to happen, if basoically all the canon things are no go?

it would make sense to dnw graphic, on screen rape

but not to dnw the topic entirely because how ??? rape is present from quite literally the prologue onward

almost all characters have some degree of it in their backstories

like are we supposed to ignore every character who can't do magic because they were raped?

are we supposed to ignore every character who is mentally unstable/in the twisted kingdom because they were raped?

you cannot even MENTION Tersa, because she's crazy and unable to wear a jewel becaue of rape

like at least a "its okay to mention people who were broken/driven insane by rape" caveat would help

Of 409 Black Jewels fics on AO3, only 34 of them are tagged rape/non-con, so it seems like some writers are capable of managing this. Honey.

the third fic for example which is the first that isn't some osrt of crossover

is all about canonical character death (another dnw) (and incest, another dnw) and 90% of the conversation is "im sorry i didnt save you from sex slavery"

fir number four has incest again (anotehr dnw) and oh, guess what

canonical character deathja agfain

aaaand it contains references to sex slavery past again

sex skills gained during sex slavery

nickname earned during sex slavery

references to abuse (gosh, another dnw) and how daemon used to blend pleasure/pain during his sex slave days to hurt his rapists as much as he could

but gee, because tehres no rape/noncon label it must totally not be referencing rape at all, huh!

five has rape noncon label

six has rapenonon label agaoin

7 is literally tagged dubious consent

8 has literally the sentence "with the few queens left unbroken" in the summary, which is a reference to rape

which anyone who has read the canon would know

Karla wins and gets to rule over her realm of Glacia. Jaenelle is supreme ruler as Witch for her mortal lifespan. Karla adopts Della; she can cantankerously but lovingly vent to Jaenelle about the difficulties of raising a spirited daughter and were we ever like that? YES WE WERE WORSE.

Or: Karla fucking adores Jaenelle and there is plenty of hints of an unrequited crush. Do pining. A time when Karla got to ride to Jaenelle's aid in a tricky conflict (could be 100% martial or political, doesn't have to be rape.)

Karla has a perfectly long life AFTER she deals with her rapist uncle, it's pretty insulting to imply that everything else in her life has to be about dealing with rapists, same with Jaenelle.

It's niot "everything has to be about the rapists", it's that it's nearly impossible to avoid anything that references or implies past rape/rape threats/rape backstory.

Btw, you shouldn't write child fic for someone who hasn't requested it. Della isnt a requsted character.

Not to mention that Della's very existejnce breaks the canonical character death DNW, because she's only available to adopt because her mother and her whole village died in a plot to take down Karla... the same plot that killed Morton, in case you forgot. You can't mention Della for someone who dnws canonical character deaths. Yeah, sure, you can assume that they pribably mean Jaenelle or Saetans death, and are fine witb Morton and a bunch of no-name vilagers, but you can't actualy know that because, again, they didn't specify.

They probably just mean they don't want a gift fic that has Rape/Noncon as an archive warning/actual fic content. They probably didn't think there was anything wrong with this kind of DNW because the idea that idea that allusions, mentions or canon-typical themes are DNW-violating isn't actually that universal.

I agree that this is the kind of assignment that would make me reach out to clarify how the recip feels about canon-typical background elements. But making such a big deal about how the recips didn't think through their DNWs makes you look like an ass.

Maybe they enjoy the canon but want to see something different for the characters they like. You don't have to talk about their backgrounds. Not every moment of every story has to talk about their experiences with rape, incest, etc.

I can this being a frustrating DNW, but you act like it's impossible while also being condescending as hell.
