I think the implication is that the "fandom" in question is a sort of a metaverse of "every couple played by these two actors is in some sense the same couple, like multiversal dopplegangers or reincarnating souls", maybe? And I guess that specific conceit does not have all that many fics. But I agree that this still seems ineligible. It's too vaguely delineated for me and a lot of the parts seem to be highly popular and ineligible pairings on their own merits.

I've got three for sure, which I thought were all I was going to do, but I'm being tempted by some things I just read/watched in the last couple of weeks.

When you post treats, you need to fill the recip name in yourself, and it offers possibles as soon as you start typing. Occasionally people get the wrong person because similar names.

Now, in theory, if you hated someone a whole lot, you could make a new account with a name that is almost identical to theirs (like Mobane, Mordane, Morbene), sign up to exchanges with high treat ratios and request popular fandoms... and request all the things they hate, especially things they find triggery. Sooner or later, someone will get the recip name wrong and gift them triggery fic.

For maximum impact, you'd need to be a good participant, who people will want to treat, of course.

Easiest to do with names that contain the letter "l" since you can just use a capital "I" in your name. That raises the likelyhood of oops a lot.

1. I do sometimes if it’s a themed rec. Usually what they do is put a fandom name on my radar and if the letter that requests it has prompts RTMI then I will get into a fandom. A rec for a fandom with great or canon incest potential where all the requests are for gen or that has boring prompts does nothing for me. Most of the time I click on a letter for a fandom I know and another fandom looks good so I check it out so I can write the prompts tbh.

On one hand I think that if a fanfic has a big enough recursive fandom to support an exchange scene based off of it and it alone, and is very clearly different from the source canon, then it's at least as valid as the "What if" stuff.

On the other hand if that was my introduction to recursive fandoms I sure as heck would not think it was even remotely valid. That has to be the worst evidence post for that sort of thing I've ever seen. They don't even name the actual fandom, wtf.

Why are so many people on the YT discord Like That. Like lots of refers to herself in the third person using italics rather than speaking plainly or instead of just saying "yeah" they'll say nods. Is this an LJ hangover?

Those are IRC-isms, not LJ-isms. The YT Discord is very definitely the reincarnation of the YT IRC chat, which was huge back in the day - a lot of the users are still the same people, for one thing. At least now we have the #hippo channel, rather than the whole hippo dance thing where a hippo ostentatiously interrupted the chat and it was The Worst Breach Of Etiquette You Could Possibly Imagine if you accidentally hit enter after they had begun to do so, because making sure everyone saw the hippo announcements was the top priority.

(Typing "/me [action]" and having it turn into "action" is embedded functionality within Discord, though, which is one of the many ways that Discord acts like it's the heir to IRC.)
