I think it's going to be a while. #36 has no prompts, no letter that I can see.

They do have a letter from last year that at least is a decent indication of what they'll want for Designing Women.

I don't think the lack of prompts is necessarily an issue but it's probably offputting that they say it'll take a while to write their letter this year, & their link to a letter tag goes to last year's permaWIP letter. So you're going to spend the whole writing period wondering if they'll ever update their letter and what their character exceptions were meant to be.

Scotland, PA is apparently a very fun, bonkers dark humor film about the play Macbeth reimagined in a modern fast food dive. It has Christopher Walken in it? Someone could probably just watch that and write whatever inspires them.

I’m curious why #1 is still there - they seem by all rights to be a chill recip with easy workable requests, and 2/3 of their fandoms are single book canons, one of which is fairly popular.

Personally I don't do underage and am intimidated by the love of 'elegaic prose', and apparently Wraethhu is at least 6 books long and I don't know where the characters appear.

Their single-book canons are both realist fiction which tends to be less popular in Yuletide than speculative fiction.

Not only that, both of them are litfic from highly acclaimed authors. I'd be too intimidated to try to write fic!

I would do the Vuong book one except I’d have to reread it and also I don’t want to take on too much this Yuletide. But I’m surprised no one else has grabbed it.

I don't write underage or their first fandom would be an option, and I hated 'On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous' too much to finish it, so can't do that either. I'm also not sure my prose skills are up to replicating either of those books.

I'm unfamiliar with the McEwan novel and looked it up on wikipedia. Coalies call it underage but is it really when he turns 18 and the fic could easily be set there? I was expecting him to be like 14 or something.

I love Ocean Vuong and I keep looking at that request, but it's a book I'd feel weird about writing for. Possibly I've seen too many interviews with him and the book's autofiction-adjacent enough to ping my RPF buttons. (RPF is of course totally fine, I just have very unpredictable personal reactions to when I am personally comfortable engaging with it and when I'm not.)

I AM surprised no one's grabbed it for Wraeththu, I remember that being popular in LJ era fandom.

Personally, Vuong's prose is deeply intimidating and he touches on a lot of sensitive subjects I'd be wary of doing justice?

The Philosophers Series really does sound fun. Though "plucky boy attempts to prove himself in an alt-world profession dominated by women" is something that can be hit or miss for me.
