Again, this, plus directly copying the recip's email and gift details into the server so everyone could find them, is what you're defending as innocently asking other mods if the situation requires a PH:


if it was a rewording of their letter and prompts...how can it be bashing...if their prompts aren't bashing?

i'm just like have they never gotten a gift they felt 'meh' about before?? just leave a short comment and move on

i really think they had a very specific idea of how they wanted it filled and it just didn't land and that’s why it feels something is off and that's when you go 'wow okay, this is something i should write on my own or commission and not request from a stranger'

i wonder if they thought i wouldn't verify...? and would just be like 'omg so sorry, i'll put you out for eph' idk lol

This is the sum of the bad stuff A did? Seems pretty tame to me, though not particularly nice or respectful. I'm sure mods have said worse about me to other mods tbh, that's how it goes

Yes, the real meat of the drama is what EO said. But what EO said was caused by A bringing it to the mod server and starting the disrespectful comments about their participant, so fuck A too.

ah, so A is the root cause? SUPER funny to see people care about the moral side, it’s just peak entertainment. watching both sides be mad is killing me. never thought ppl could melt down over something this tiny, and the mods jumping in on anon to defend themselves angrily? chef’s kiss wank.

This is absolutely calling the recipient a liar, which I hope isn't standard mod behavior towards recipients who've done nothing wrong. Maybe it is.

From what I understand, there wasn't a DNW violation, the recip just felt like something wasn't right with the fic. The mod was fine to reject their EPH request, but the mod behaved badly after rejecting the recip by trying to gain sympathy and validation from the other mods for their decision.

Ah, so it was that kind of situation where they were sort of fishing for an epH because they didn't like their fic. That happens all the time and isn't really worth asking for advice from others from. You just give them a boilerplate denial and move along

It is when you personally can't read the fic in question and want a second opinion. I'm unsquickable but most people aren't.

Yeah, the fact that they took it to the mod discord at all is what has been sticking with me, not that they denied the request. They also took it to the mod discord after they had already denied it. The motivation was pure venting and backpats.

This is exactly the sort of comment that led to 'they're a liar' in mod cabal; it's weird to me that you think you're being reasonable.

Sometimes people ask for EPHs and you don't necessarily agree but you want a sanity check. If you then decide it isn't warranted that doesn't mean the person is fishing.

Recip said that it was a rewording of their prompt and contained character bashing.

Earlier in the thread people who tracked it down said parts of the fic were directly lifted from the request word for word (not just 'following the prompt to write the fic') and that one of the characters had been made a flatly evil caricature.

I haven't read it because I don't know the fandom so I can't verify.

I've received gifts like this before. It's a skill issue by the writer. It's a disappointing gift but if I got an EPH for every disappointing gift I've received I'd nearly double my gift count. "Thank you for writing for me" is a complete sentence.

Not word for word. More like a clumsy rephrasing, which isn't surprising since the gifter is not a good writer.
Not going to put the recip on blast by sharing the fic but... I read the fic and it didn't deserve an EPH. That said, it doesn't mean the recip deserved to be mocked and insulted in a server of 100+ members. That was just shitty and disrespectful.

I feel like I've seen this quite a few times, and it's not a lie. It goes:
• hurt feelings
• someone made me hurt
• it must be their fault

and if the first reason doesn't make sense, the person doesn't reevaluate the overall situation. They still believe they were injured, because they feel injured. (Because if not... what if they don't deserve to feel hurt? What if they're even in the wrong? too scary.) So they decide that it was a different injury, but still an injury.
