Do you even actually know it was you? I have yet to see anyone confirm this, or even confirm which exchange it was, but you've gone from "this might be me" to "if it was RS, there's a 99% chance it was me" to "it was definitely me" over the course of this thread.

I hope no one does confirm which exchange it was. It sounds like the mod just asked for advice and the real shitty behavior happened afterwards.

For all we know this is about some random single fandom exchange we've never heard of.

Disclaimer I am not there and have no idea, I'm just looking at the mention of 100+ mods and thinking that seems like way too many mods for it to be limited to our normal BFE range.

I'm not in the server but a lot of servers have a lot of inactive (but potentially lurky) members because they don't actively boot people who've drifted out of the scene.

I think you need to have modded an exchange in the last year to remain in the mod cabal. (I'm not in it myself, and my knowledge might be out of date.)

We don't know if it was them or not, since we don't know who they are!

If it wasn't RS, we can conclude it wasn't them (but it being RS doesn't definitively confirm that it was them).

I hope no one confirms what exchange it was because this has been such a warped report of proceedings that it seems really unfair to the mod - and likely to damage further resolution.

Most "extreme" reinterpretations aside, I don't understand why this happened in the first place. I'm not in the mod discord server, but whenever I need modding help, I ask on EAD to be DMed by a mod and it's always worked smoothly. I've seen several people do the same. Nobody I know of has ever reported back publicly on their participant's situation.

You ask on EAD to be DMed because you sensibly don't want to air dirty laundry in a server of a few thousand. Presumably the mod server is small enough that the members believe what they share will stay confidential.

I love the idea of a mod who unnecessarily makes a participant's issue public to dozens of people but expects all those people to keep it to themselves. Couldn't the participant's issue stay confidential?

The mod server exists for these kinds of questions, though. You're modding an exchange and have an issue you don't know how to address, you can bring it to the server to ask the opinions of more experienced mods. Some have dealt with these same issues before and some have had similar problems with these same participants in the past. As the mod you make the final call but the other mods are there to help.

Surely these questions can be asked in hypotheticals and without identifiable information? It all feels pretty tactless to me.

That sounds reasonable enough, especially if the details are kept vague, but it doesn't sound like it was kept vague enough here. I can't really articulate why I don't like this, but it's something about potentially one-off or relatively benign mistakes having a much higher social cost than expected.

I've had gifts that were maybe EPH-worthy that I didn't bother bringing to the mod, because it was on-the-fence stuff like arguable gen tagged as ship or a story that clearly grew too many legs for the author to finish and ended up reading pretty incomplete in its posted form. Not some flagrant disregard for the rules, just questionable judgement calls. In those cases I'm glad I didn't put those creators on any mod group radar like that.

I agree with your first paragraph. Most things are vague enough that you can't investigate the details to the degree you could in this instance.

What has been reported that's been incorrect? I don't see anything. In fact, so far, the only person reporting incorrectly has been you.
