That sounds reasonable enough, especially if the details are kept vague, but it doesn't sound like it was kept vague enough here. I can't really articulate why I don't like this, but it's something about potentially one-off or relatively benign mistakes having a much higher social cost than expected.

I've had gifts that were maybe EPH-worthy that I didn't bother bringing to the mod, because it was on-the-fence stuff like arguable gen tagged as ship or a story that clearly grew too many legs for the author to finish and ended up reading pretty incomplete in its posted form. Not some flagrant disregard for the rules, just questionable judgement calls. In those cases I'm glad I didn't put those creators on any mod group radar like that.

I agree with your first paragraph. Most things are vague enough that you can't investigate the details to the degree you could in this instance.
