I haven't done Candyhearts before, kinda surprised it's this many. Only 300 words min, you'd think people would be able to slap something together

It attracts a lot of exchange newbies, people who take it casually, and people who are from tumblr exchanges where give a gift, get a gift is less strictly enforced.

(And 'take it casually' isn't necessarily meant as a condemnation. The exchange can bear it if people default on assignments that aren't working for them, as long as most people sign up in good fath.)

NAYRT but probably because it's a low min word count exchange and many of the PHs that are still up include big fandoms and popular pairings

AYRT The other anon is correct. There were some big fandoms in there and it's a low minimum, so I guess I was just surprised they were lingering

I've recently come to the conclusion that low min word count exchanges are a trap. Nothing I wrote for Bulletproof or Candyhearts turned out less than three times the lower limit, and most are 1k and above

Same. Most of my fics turn out between 1-3k whether they're for standard exchanges or low minimum/flash exchanges. It's just the length my scenes go, and most of my exchange fic is 1 scene.

Part of why I'm hesitant to take very many pinch hits is that it's going to wind up being 4k+ no matter what and that's time-consuming.

As a lingering PH that only recently got claimed, I'm annoyed my original assigned writer put my new writer in the position of possibly having to rush it

At the same time, I'm irrationally hoping reveals get held up for a bit longer because there's a ton of treats I've been meaning to do but haven't had the time for, is that mean?

Not mean but it is hypocritical, but I think you already knew that.

It's a 300-word minimum so a few days is plenty of time to make a qualifying gift. You make it sound so nice, like you're totally thinking of your writer here, when it's just a roundabout way to say that you're worried you won't get a great gift now.

I can see how it would be mean, but I don't see how it would be hypocritical. It's not like I said "I can't wait for reveals but I also want reveals to be pushed back!"

That makes not one lick of sense. I too think that a few days is enough time to write something 300 words strong. That is exactly why I didn't say the thing you're assuming I was actually trying to say.

The other reason is that I don't count on great gifts to begin with. It's nice when it happens, but expecting it feels like a great recipe for perpetual disappointment.

Time to work on completing treats after the deadline and not treating it as an arbitrary cut-off!

One of the remaining pinch hits is a one fandom request. I wasn't aware that you could only request one fandom?

From the rules post:

You may request 1-10 fandoms, each with 1-10 relationships and at least one medium (Fanart, Fanfic, and/or Podfic). You can also request Any, which means you are requesting gifts for any of the nominated relationships for that fandom.

You can offer 1-10 fandoms, each with 1-10 relationships. You can also offer Any, meaning you're willing to create a gift for any nominated relationship in that fandom.

In your additional details, make sure to include any DNWs. These are things you Do Not Want, i.e., things that would ruin a gift for you and which your creator must avoid.

You can also use the additional details box to list likes, prompts, and anything else that might help your creator make a gift you will enjoy. You can also provide a link to a letter posted on your Dreamwidth, Tumblr, etc.

You are only guaranteed a gift if you request at least three distinct fandoms. If you've requested fewer than three fandoms and you are a pinch hit at the time works are due, I'll contact you about potentially adding more fandoms. If you prefer not to, you'll still stay up as an available pinch hit, but you are not guaranteed a gift.

The collection will not open until everyone who has requested at least three distinct fandoms has a gift.

I wish exchanges like that made it more obvious in their pinch hits lists which ones actually needed to be picked up for reveals and which didn't. I mean I get why they don't, but the pinch hits lists often get linked around by participants begging people to take them all so the collection will open, even if most of them don't need to be taken for the collection to open.

Honestly that feels like a feature not a bug. The person still completed a gift or they wouldn't be listed as PH. People who care can read the rules more closely.
