Sure. It's not like I never write drunk. It's also possible to write good fic while you're in class, and I've done that all the time when I was at uni, no regrets. But when it's gift fic, the recip deserves 100% of your undivided full attention going into the writing, and if you blatantly announce that you can't do that, you're a dick.

All the stuff people commonly do to lower expectations on their fic and make themselves feel better if readers don’t respond to it (“I wrote this in class” “not beta read we die like men” “lol I wrote this high” “I don’t really know the show but I wrote this anyway!”) all come across really rudely when they’re attached to a gift. If someone handed you a knitted gift and said “sorry I’m a terrible knitter and I know it’s bad,” you would then have to say “no, it looks great, you’re really good!” out of politeness. Those kind of tags/notes make it all about the author and it’s not fair to the recipient.

I'm not even uncomfortable with people doing drugs. I think personal drug use should be legal, just like getting drunk is. That has nothing to do with whether it's rude to say you wrote a gift fic while on drugs.
