What the hell are we even discussing about? This is Yuletide. We want to know what someone likes in fanfictions, not unrequested details about their real life. If someone can't tell the difference between fiction and reality, I don't know what they're doing in fandom spaces.

They literally explained to you why lack of prep in fic has to do with IRL sex! It bothers them in fic because it doesn't match up with their IRL experience! Their preferences as a reader have been shaped by their real life experiences! It so obviously wasn't intended as anything more than a jokey, personable way to get across their preferences.

People clearly do GAF about what this person does IRL, or y'all would have read it and moved on. Why are we being so prudish in Yuletide, for god's sake?? Graphic anal sex has featured in god knows how many Yuletides stories, and we're freaking out about knowing that it happens in real life? Who cares!

I don't care about them having anal sex in real life, good for them. I said I'd rather know all about someone's fictional porn preferences than anything about their real life. This includes them telling me about their favorite color, or how they drink their tea, or how long they take to shower and how any of this clearly needs to impact what the characters do in the fic.

If this is your limit for oversharing personal info in Yuletide letters... Boy howdy. I've seen people talking about their job, their hobbies, one year someone wrote WAY too much about their health issues. Which was deservedly wanked to hell and back, but there are many letters this year with fun personal tidbits in them, and the only one y'all are wanking on is the anal sex one, so. Coalie, sometimes adults have sex. It doesn't just happen in fanfiction.

Different strokes and all, but I prefer letters that give me an idea of who the person is and various things they enjoy, in fic and in life, because I have more to work with that way and it's easier to write something they'll really like. For example, this person obviously prefers realism to porn logic, so I'd err on that side if I were writing for them. If someone told me they really like cyan blue, I'd describe some cyan blue clothes or furniture or something, and be grateful for the opportunity to personalise their gift a little :)

It's not necessary, but it's not necessary to say anything at all, or even write a letter. I don't see a coal post for any of the other unnecessary personal details in other letters, so the issue here doesn't seem to be about how necessary the info is, it seems to be about the anal sex.

I have no idea if the letter writer is a gay man or a straight woman or a lesbian or non binary. I think it's mildly oversharing to talk about your own sex life to a stranger who just wants to write you a damn fic, not think about you having sex, whatever your orientation and gender. But in terms of someone having poor understanding of social context and norms, and no real big deal.

But mostly, I think *you* are being a wanker.
