And another one!

I see my nemesis getting a fic that I love
And I'm like, "Fuck you"
I guess my 10k letter wasn't enough
I'm like, "Fuck you and fuck morbane, too"
Said, "If I was a long commenter, they woulda gamed for me"
Ha, now ain't that some shit?
(Ain't that some shit?)
And although there's pain in my chest
I still comment it's the best
And runs to coal to shout "Fuck you"

Ugh, commiserations. "wants to be funny but isn't" is the worst gift. /received one of those targeted text "born in NOVEMBER don't MESS with her" type gifts this morning

If I leave longer comments on the other fics in this fandom which are much funnier, they'll probably notice, won't they?

What does this mean?

Is this an astrology thing?

Maybe email the mods?

That better not be a modern AU.

I have fixed many a typo that way! Thanks readers. <3

+1000

Same for mine. My fandom is relatively large for yuletide, and more than half the readable fic has been posted for exchanges, all within the past two years or so.

Please comment before the recip if they haven't done so when you read a fic! I wrote for a known noncommenter so the wait will be infinite for me TT

Yes!

Oh, oof. I don't remember if I wrote anything defending her in any of the threads, but I was considering writing her a Laurie/Dan/Rorschach fic 'cause I felt bad for her and I just like the ship. Didn't get around to it though because of time management issues. My AuDHD saved me for once, I guess!

It's impossible for fishspeakers to have written that comment, actually. The phrasing actually had drama in it.

She's a condescending prat with a too-big ego.

Hardly rare, but extra obnoxious when it's someone with a large following and the ability to amplify some really shit takes. And I say that as someone who agrees with her on plenty of fannish topics and often enjoys her analyses.

As someone who wrote one long assignment and one short treat in the same book fandom for the same recipient... my sincerest apologies, anon, if that was me :'D

At least the treat hit the spot!

My gift was quite excellent. A few rough spots, but much better than I dared hope for, certainly, and it was juicily long (6k)! Upon reveals, it turns out it was written by someone I've known for years, whom I talked into doing Yuletide with me. They confessed that when they got matched to me, they'd already started writing the fic (because WE had been discussing the idea in DMs!), except I was under the impression they hadn't offered this fandom so I had no issue asking them about how their own gift-writing was going. Which meant they'd been lovingly lying to me for like three months

10/10 experience, very fun. (I'm not being sarcastic, if that's unclear, it was just genuinely delightful shenanigans and "IT WAS YOU? BUT HOW!" come reveals day. They're becoming a pretty good writer!)

DC. As someone who actually wrote for the exact user being discussed here, I thought I'd share my two cents:

1) I'm new-ish to exchanges
2) It didn't even occur to me to be confused by their prompts. I did end up going in a vaguely shippy direction, and while that was because of the prompt, tbh some of those "I'd love something for this ship!" comments barely count as prompts. Nothing wrong with that, it's something I'd assume people keep sparse at their own risk. (You would think.)
3) Onnnn the other hand, I wrote them a decent length & main assignment and a short / treat, and they literally only acknowledged the latter. No kudos, no comment on the & fic I worked like mad to finish on time. That fic ended up my best-received fic of this exchange and is in Yuletide Recs twice, so I don't think it was for lack of writing quality. Both their own fics for this fandom are overtly shippy. I'm assuming they're either putting off reading the longer fic (nothing wrong with that, though annoying), or they skipped it because it's not the ship they REALLY really wanted, even though they said they'd be fine with platonic. It's their second Yuletide so maybe they just don't know how the commenting etiquette works. ( shrug emoji )

Tl;dr: There's nothing confusing about a request that has fewer prompts than characters or ships, but I also don't blame more experienced exchange participants for looking at this and thinkig recip might ignore anything that's not their actual optional details prompt.

"The likelihood that they were confused about having to request those characters, or felt like they had to select "just one is fine" tags to be nice, is too high."

Bingo. I think you're right about this.

(I mentioned this elsewhere in the thread, but I wrote them a non-shippy main assignment and it was ignored, though they didn't reject it.)

Oooofff. You did it right coalie, they had the bad exchange etiquette.
