Personally, I think you should absolutely kudos and comment fics before the recips (especially because you have no way of knowing if the recip will ever show up).

I suspect AYRT is shying away from that in this case because there have been some issues with people being gifted DNWs in Pern fandom in the past.

In particular, I suspect they were thinking of the gay bashing dragon fic getting kudosed before people realised how not in keeping with the recip's request it was.

Please comment before the recip if they haven't done so when you read a fic! I wrote for a known noncommenter so the wait will be infinite for me TT
