I don't give a hoot about AI drama so my soul slept well that night.

idc about the drama either, i’d just feel awful about myself if i used AI. any positive attention the fic got would feel cheapened, and i’d always know that i chickened out and cheated. i’d know the depth of my own creative cowardice.

i actually got frantic enough to consider using AI this year - i defaulted instead. at that point, why am i even doing a fic exchange, you know? it’s a hobby, not a job.

I don't consider it cheating any more than I consider using brushes other people made as cheating in art.

If you used portions of it in your own work, sure, that would also be comparable.

I think this is probably the root of the disgreement here, not everybody agrees on what is "mundane". I grew up in a fairly anti-body mods environment and my first association with tongue or lip piercings is in fact tooth harm because that's what everybody used to warn me off them as a child/teen. But I know people for whom piercings are in fact totally mundane, wouldn't consider it an unusual part of daily life, and wouldn't think twice about it. Everybody brings their own context to what's mundane.

The characters and character dynamics are commonly what's matched on with OW.

My taste is excellent. It's not my fault you have zero imagination and can't get invested in characters unless you have the entire worldbuilding laid out for you.

I suspect a lot of people used "AI" last year because a lot of spelling/grammar/etc. checker apps have been silently sneaking in LLM prediction to their advice, and many of the people who use them are exactly the people who yell loudly about people being evil for using AI without realizing they are in fact doing it.

But legitimately, if you just want a story why not just put your own prompt into the AI instead of your recip's and save all the extra trouble?
