I think this is probably the root of the disgreement here, not everybody agrees on what is "mundane". I grew up in a fairly anti-body mods environment and my first association with tongue or lip piercings is in fact tooth harm because that's what everybody used to warn me off them as a child/teen. But I know people for whom piercings are in fact totally mundane, wouldn't consider it an unusual part of daily life, and wouldn't think twice about it. Everybody brings their own context to what's mundane.
(which is why people need to be thoughtful about their DNWs. And also accept that they can't be perfect.)
