In TV and film, specifically. Any language is fine.

If you're interested in BL, I compiled a list of the Thai/Korean/Taiwanese BLs in the tag list with a short description and where to find them: https://justpaste.it/30rf2

The Exorcist TV show: Marcus Keane/Peter Osborne, both of whom are in their 50s. Marcus is an exorcist who was recently stripped of his priesthood. He's bisexual (having been shown exanging flirtatious looks with a man in a bar in season 1, and was once in love with a woman without consummating that relationship, for complicated reasons, many years earlier), but is only now really getting the chance to explore his sexuality, since he no's no longer bound by vows of chastity that he'd kept for over 40 years (debatably making him still a virgin), having dedicated his entire life to the Catholic Church and fighting demons after a traumatic childhood. Peter is a gentle, funny Fish & Wildlife Service biologist and military vet and total silver fox who is really into Marcus and doesn't flinch when Marcus's trauma surfaces.

This is their first kiss:

Deciding whether to sign up

For those on the fence.

Re: Deciding whether to sign up

Currently I have: 2 requests I know I want, and a 3rd request I also want but where it's so much more popular than the first two that if I include it it seems guaranteed that's what I'll get, which feels weird. Having more requests might help balance that out, but my possible 4th request is for a canon I've consumed about 2/5 of, and a fifth request is for a canon I've consumed in full but not for a very long time. Also, I've promised another fic to a friend by the end of the year. I enjoy Yuletide usually, but I'm not sure I need to do it this year.

Had a massive freakout of inadequacy last year while writing and after posting, there's so much tempting me this year but I don't want to risk it again, especially because it's very hard for me to write at all in the first place.

Writing THE fic in a fandom

(Anonymous) 2020-10-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
1. Have you ever written “THE” fic in the fandom? What kind was it? The only fic, the longfic, the one that is the most popular by a long mile? The one that everyone recs or thinks is the most in character?
2. Do you still write in the fandom or are you one and done?
3. If your fic is the only one in the fandom AND only one person requests it...will you write for it again? Was that your one good idea/the only prompt of theirs that worked for you? Do you feel like you can’t top that fic or anything you write will be set in that fics verse which feels unfair to (another/the same) recip?

That really sucks. I'm sorry you feel that way.

Canons with interesting villains that people are likely to want fic about! TV and movies preferred but standalone books are welcome too.

Unpopular Yuletide Opinions

What are yours?

Re: Writing THE fic in a fandom

(Anonymous) 2020-10-15 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
For me:

1. Yes multiple times. Sometimes it’s the only fic and sometimes it’s the one that’s regularly heralded in namespace as “THE” fic for the small or medium fandom in rec threads, primers, or in bookmark comments. Usually its at least 5k+, typically over 10k.

2. I’m one and done because...

3. ...usually it was my one idea aka it was the one prompt I’ve ever seen that worked for me. Unless someone new shows up or the fandom refreshes their prompts, I have no inspiration to write more no matter how many praising comments I get. Right now I feel bad because I wrote someone “the” fic for 5+ year old fandom that never had any fic and they keep asking for it. I hope they aren’t trying to entice me to treat for them because none of their other prompts inspire me, but I have guilt since no one else has ever written the fandom before or since. There is some pressure to write in these fandoms again because you’re the only one writing for it in general or and writing it “better” than the rest.

I don’t know if it’s unpopular but I don’t think it’s unreasonable or surprising that those who write short comments or vague letters aren’t beloved by the treating crowd.

Unpopular because coalies will always spring up to defend those types of recips.

What’s the keyboard shortcut to bring up easter eggs on the app again?

Re: Canon Recs - Villains

(Anonymous) 2020-10-15 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I've already seen one Knives Out (2019) letter that wanted to know more about the villain's backstory. (It's a murder mystery, so I won't spoil it.)

I much prefer having requests be hidden until assignments go out.

Partly for the mystery and excitement of seeing what my assignment is and partly because I hate WIP sign-ups.

Re: Questions

(Anonymous) 2020-10-15 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
coadie here - I haven't done easter eggs this year yet, so even if you do remember it (I don't! lol) and the app works, the stats will be out of date until I wrangle some time out of the ether. Sorry!

+1 million. I feel you, coalie.

Re: Canon Recs: books with good audiobook versions

(Anonymous) 2020-10-15 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I've got some Audible credits I need to spend! I'd prefer one-off books in sci-fi/fantasy or historical. Other audio-y titles I've liked: The Sparrow, Children of Time. Potential for M/M or really rich worldbuilding are both good bonuses.

Has anyone seen the Mods' essay on DNWs?

(Anonymous) 2020-10-15 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
I know the YT Discord was talking about this the other day, and other than Beatrice_Otter chiming in with a wall-of-text which had fuck-all to do with the actual point, it was a good conversation.

But the YT mods have just posted this, and as someone who was stressed about causing unintentional Prim-level wank for wanting to DNW issuefic and unrequested sexuality/race/gender headcanons, I'm genuinely relieved: https://yuletide-admin.dreamwidth.org/78677.html?view=1544021

What do you think, Coalies? Will this stop wank dead, or will any wankers still get their panties in a wad?
