Sorry for the naive question, I'm a newb. Is the letters post the only place to find people's letters? Do most people who write a letter link to that post?

The letters post and the app (https://tagset2020.firebaseapp.com/#/) are the main places to find people letters.

Last year there were 1453 sign ups and 739 letters submitted to the app- so about half of participants linked their letters. It looks like ~100 people didn't then report it to the post, so the app is likely to be your most complete record. Of the remaining participants, I have no idea how many didn't write a letter at all or only linked it in their sign up.

You can sometimes find unlinked letters by the general tag search on tumblr or DW, but mostly those are unfinished and get linked when they are finished.

If I'm writing a letter, is there any point me c&p-ing those same prompts into my actual sign-up?

No guarantee your assigned author clicks through, it's easier if you wind up on the PH list if people can just see them in the email etc etc. You don't have to match your letter perfectly, but it's good to have SOMETHING in there

"no guarantee your author clicks through" is such crazy advice to me because if you have more than an arbitrarily unknown number of details (which is likely very low) in your sign up, the type of person who won't read letters definitely isn't going to read your long, badly formatted/redundant letter sections. having stuff in your sign up doesn't magically make it no longer subject to ODAO and isn't going to stop an asshole from being an asshole.

I think it makes sense to c&p at least some promts from your letter into your sign-up, and here's why.

If you go out for a pinch-hit, people will decide whether to offer or not (and possibly make a mental note to treat) based on what's in your sign-up. Show them what you're excited about in this fandom!

I mean, people might click through and read the letter first, but whenever I've done that, I never manage to snag the PH.
