Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)How many fics did you write? Have your recipients commented and how did they like it? How did the fandom or the rest of Yuletide like it?
How are the other fics in your fandoms?
Answer in as much or as little detail as you like!
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)Four, and the hits:kudos ratio is pretty good on all of them. Three happy recip comments, one radio silence, several non-recip comments on most of them.
Two of the fandoms I wrote in have absolutely stellar, longer, later-dated fics getting really great reactions.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote two fics. One of them has a positive recip comment, but no other comments. The other has about half a dozen non-recip comments and got recced on FFA, but I'm still waiting to hear from the recip. But they have a number of gifts and I can see them slowly working their way through them, so I'm not worried. I just hope it's what they were looking for.
I found a handful of stories in other fandoms (not necessarily "my" fandoms) that I really enjoyed. Overall, there were few fics that were RTMI. I read fewer stories than I usually do, but out of the fics I read, the average quality was pretty good.
Overall, a disappointing Yuletide, but mostly due to my gift.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)Six! Recip comments on all! I'm happy with the overall reception. Even got a second kudos on the story I figured no one but the recip would read.
Other fic--the two fandoms I was most excited to read other fic in were disappointing, sigh.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote one. My recipient left an amazing comment that I've reread two dozen times but otherwise I wasn't expecting much reception, so any extra love has been a pleasant surprise.
The fic in my main fandoms appears fine but not amazing. I haven't read outside of my go-tos yet.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote 10 full-length stories, but a couple had to go in Madness. The recips have commented on all, and about half were long, ecstatic squees that really blew me away, and the other half were short to average length really lovely comments. A couple of them have only the recip comment, but I expected that. Most have multiple comments, which surprised me since half of what I wrote was first in fandom. I don't look at hits/kudos, because I just don't care. I've seen people here and at FFA say things like "all the stories in X fandom are really good" and people agree, about a couple of the fandoms I wrote in, so whether they comment specifically or not, those aways give me a boost.
The other stories in the fandoms I wrote for range from good to fucking amazing (with a glaring exception), and the stories I wrote in those fandoms with more than one are decidedly not the fucking amazing ones. I've read and commented on most of the other stories with just a couple left to go, because wow, great stuff.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote four stories. I got effusive praise (with a later update!) on my assignment, nice comments on two of my shorter treats, and a very excited but sort of abrupt response to my long treat. My feedback is good for the fandoms they're in (still single digit kudos all around), and I'm beyond psyched that my fandom crush recced my assignment.
I wrote about half the fic in the two fandoms I'm really into, and while I'm reading/kudosing/commenting on the other works, I'm not blown away by anything aside from my gift in one of them. (There's one rather nice drabble in Madness, but the two treats in the main collection aren't my thing.)
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)Two fics. Both recips have commented and were quite happy. One left a notably longer comment than they normally do, so I think they were really happy! Both have a handful of other comments, which is in line with how other fics from the fandoms are doing this year, and one got recced, some I'm satisfied.
So far, most of my fandoms that I've had time to check out have all had at least one really good fic, so this has been a good Yuletide!
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote four fics, 4/4 recip responses \o/ and all seemed to like their gifts!
One thing I wrote is very niche, has only the recip comment but amazingly a few other kudos (and a kudos/hits ratio of 0.5!) Two have two non-recip comments and a handful of kudos. One has double-digit kudos and a relative bounty of comments (for me, for Yuletide) - I'm amazed and delighted!
I've been enjoying quite a lot of the archive! I don't really have a lot of fandoms per se, but at Yuletide I read in old fandoms of mine and things I kind of know (like, books I've read but don't feel fannish about) and I've read a lot of good stories and a few stellar stories.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote five gifts. My recips have all commented! But a couple of those comments are currently placeholders. (I'm not fussed, though, because they're the kind of placeholders that could have stood alone as perfectly enthusiastic short comments.) All the fandoms were pretty obscure, so the fact that I have any non-recip comments at all is awesome. \:D/!
Two of the fandoms I wrote in have fics besides mine, which I'd categorize as "fine but not expectional" - enough good stuff to leave a comment, but I don't think I'd rec them. I've got a bunch of other fandoms bookmarked to check out, though, and my real deep dive through the collection will be happening tonight and tomorrow!
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-28 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote 4, which I've also never done before! All 4 recips gave super lovely comments. Two are doing really well, and two have gotten good comments but not many kudos. I wonder if it'll pick up when reveals happen. Not sure.
The other fics in my fandoms are fantastic too. What a good yuletide for me.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 12:10 am (UTC)(link)My assignment's going over pretty well, too. Honestly, I made out like a bandit this year and I'm wondering if I should just quit exchanges while I'm ahead.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 12:53 am (UTC)(link)I have multiple excellent gifts! They all have a low hit count, but a good ratio. One only has my comment on it.
I wrote ... five fics. All of my recips commented positively.
One of the fics, the rare pair weird porn, only has that one comment and couple of kudos, and is getting hits but not more comments or kudos. I suspect I might be putting people off by the high-concept intro and resolution to a kinky, porny center? Oh well.
One of them's doing really well, with a rec, a lots of hits (well, by my standards), a solid ratio, and some great comments.
The other 3 are all in obscure fandoms, with a few hits and multiple comments, which is exciting. The Madness one is doing just as well as the main collection ones.
The others in the weird porn fandom are doing much better - I haven't read them yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
The others in the bigger fandom have nowhere near the hits of mine, which is a shame - they're focused on other aspects of canon, but are good!
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 02:28 am (UTC)(link)For giving, one of my recips hasn't commented yet. While I really appreciate that a few kind folks have left comments, they're all very short "I enjoyed this!" comments. The other fic in the fandom continues to do way better than mine and I'm disappointed. I was so excited to read it and then the characters were wildly OOC and the formatting was weird.
My other recip left a wonderful comment but the fic is getting way less traffic than others in that fandom have in Yuletides past. I hid my assignment from my friends who are in the same fandom to see if anyone would guess it was me, but none of them have kudosed or commented. Just may not be my year...
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 03:41 am (UTC)(link)In terms of comments, I've gotten some really nice ones (although my recipient has left a placeholder comment and on one of the treats I wrote, the recipient hasn't commented either).
Really good fic in the collection too! Still working my way through it!
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 10:09 am (UTC)(link)My own fic is doing pretty well in terms of kudos and ratio with a fair number of hits, but I'm not certain that the recip liked it, plus it's not doing a good job of being evocative or of conveying emotion and character, and the people commenting keep only complimenting the technical aspects which is... well enough, but I feel like it failed in that regard. Characterisation is a nightmare and I'm godawful at it.
I've found some absolute gems in miscellaneous fandoms since most of the ones I'm in didn't get written for, and the other fic in the fandom I wrote for are quite good too! So it's been a fun time reading.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote 4 gifts, 1 in Madness and the others all in the main collection, and I’ve had great feedback from the recips of all 4. Not many hits, but I’m mainly writing in small fandoms, so I’m happy with the feedback I’ve had on the whole, mainly because the fic I’m most proud on, in a fandom I really wanted to write for was very well received and I’m thrilled to bits with the response it got.
Interestingly enough, the fic I thought would get the most response has actually had the least response overall, but the recip liked it, so *shrug*. I was expecting that fandom to be much bigger than it’s been this Yuletide, so I’m a little surprised it’s so quiet.
I’ve read some excellent fics too.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)I only wrote one fic this year, way down from last year's nine. I got a really nice recip comment although I do hold out hope I'll get at least one more.
I've been busy so I haven't really been able to read through all my fandoms yet. Hopefully I'll get to some more before the anon period ends but it might take me until after.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-29 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)I wrote... 7? I'm missing one recip comment; everyone else seems pretty happy with theirs. Sometimes it's hard for me to tell what's genuine or not, so I'll just believe everything is face-value :D My fandoms are half teeny tiny, half big for Yuletide; in a total inversion of expectations my small fandoms are getting hits and my big fandoms are doing so-so. Even more confusingly, I've been recced in namespace a good number of times... by people who haven't left comments? ??? ???????? UNSURE HOW TO PARSE THIS.
Other fics in my fandoms have been pretty dang good, even if my list of readable fandoms is down this year. Some longfic that I haven't been able to get to yet because of No Brains, but it's been a surprisingly good year. Normally I backbutton out because of SPAG/characterisation within 5 paragraphs for most Yuletide fic, but that's not been the case so much this year, even though I've read less.
I think maybe the whole Christmas being midweek thing has thrown a bit of wrench in people's Yuletide commenting, because I'm v. sad to be missing some comments/kudos from fandom regulars who I know tend to go forth and click on all fics regardless of quality. I miss you, friends! I do Yuletide to say hello to you guys! Come back!

(Anonymous) 2019-12-30 01:46 am (UTC)(link)My gifts were incredible, especially my main gift, so I do feel very lucky in that regard, but it's been hard for me to get hype about anything beyond that. The fic I write is just as important to me in an exchange. I guess I wrote something too inaccessible this year, and I'm stuck with a likely non-commenting recip. I'm just hoping I'll get some feedback when the fic is in namespace, and I'll just have to write m/m for a popular fandom next year, so I can enjoy myself more, lol.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-30 05:26 am (UTC)(link)Wrote 1. My recipient appears to have genuinely liked it, as does the fandom, which is a relief because all I can see when I look at it is every clunky sentence construction or odd characterization I could have shaved away if I spent more time. Think I just need to ignore the fic for like, a month.
There were so many more fics in fandoms I especially love this year than I expected! I'm very happy, and I selfishly hope some of those folks keep writing in those fandoms.
Re: Your Yuletide So Far
(Anonymous) 2019-12-30 09:25 am (UTC)(link)I wrote one full-length fic and one ficlet. Both have positive comments from their respective recips and other readers.
The full-length fic especially has had quite a few long, positive comments, with the consensus that the fic reads like an episode of canon. And it has less than 40 hits, so it has a great hits to comments ratio (not that I normally obsess over ratios, it's just something I noticed while checking my stats page). I'm thrilled with the reception - it makes up for my mediocre gift.
