The author of the original canon found out about there being fic for one of their books and posted several very excited tweets and a link on their twitter. The hits on the fic went from like 4 to 30-40 in about five hours but the kudos/comments stayed about the same.

Oh wow I'm not sure how I'd feel about that. Thrilled I guess if I'd written something family friendly, mortified if I'd written kink!

I just had the most visceral NOPE reaction of my life, so I don't think I'd be thrilled even if family friendly. Did not expect quite that strong a reaction.

Hah, something similar happened to me this year too. Fortunately I wrote something very true to canon and I know that the author is very fanfic friendly.
