It was the Coal of Times

It was the best of assignments, it was the worst of assignments, it was the age of gaming your offers, it was the age of forgetting to remove that one fandom from your offers, it was the epoch of treat writing, it was the epoch of apocapinch-hits, it was the season of fics of your dreams, it was the season of explicit DNW spitefic, it was the spring of hope that the anon in the comment above is writing for you, it was the winter of ars_belli is your author.

Prompts revealed and Madness opens: Approx 9 November
Default deadline: 11 December, 9am UTC
Assignment deadline: 18 December, 9am UTC
Main Collection Reveals: 25 December (time tba)

Yuletide - Assignements out

Also FIRST!

But yeah, how are the assignments?

No likes, one single dnw and prompts are basically "do whatever".

My main: Exactly the person I hoped to match to when I offered this fandom because I liked their letter the best. I know 3 of their 6 fandoms, 2 of which I offered. Their last one is a canon I've thought about watching with prompts so good I probably will now. I may actually end up writing 3-4 fics for this person before I move on to my regular treating spree!

Sock: I know 3 of their fandoms and while their prompts aren't the most inspiring, they aren't by any means bad and they benefit from being fandoms where people had much more detailed/inspiring (to me) letters. I need to decide if I want to write for the smaller/rarer or their ships or the one where I can deliver all their niche narrative/sexual kinks...

Samesies. I hope they mean it, because I absolutely will go batshit and do whatever.

No letter and matched on only one fandom. But they're very clear about having a wide variety of likes, few DNWs, and I've been interested in a couple of their other fandoms that are pretty short, so I've got backups if I blank on our match.

I'm kind of sad I didn't match on the five minute fandom I threw in as a what the hell but for which I now suddenly have, like, allllllll the ideas.

The letter is a placeholder, how could this happen to me!

How long do you usually wait before asking mods about placeholders?

Treat Pact

How many are you hoping to write this year?

I guess I should be happy that the fandom we matched on has the least WTF of their "prompts"....

I want to get 8 fics written, minimum. I really want to write at least one to two a week, but RL has been extremely dramatic and I hope that stress doesn't kill the enthusiasm I have now.

At least the 8th.

Let's start humble: I am hoping to write at least one treat!

Re: Yuletide - Assignements out

(Anonymous) 2019-11-05 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Requested two characters...and a period of canon where they have not met. With a single line that basically just says "X period, please."

I was prepared to write gen between these two characters even though I ship them, and would have been very happy to do so, because I just find their interactions fascinating. And I was prepared (though less excited) to write a character study of one of them if I matched on only one. But this I was not expecting. I think I've already figured out how to make it work, but it's definitely not the most interesting part of canon for me.

Eh. More time for treats and/or writing for a different December exchange I'm more excited about, I guess. This is my first year doing a lot of exchanges, and it definitely makes Yuletide feel less ~important~, so a disappointing assignment isn't the end of the world.

Bare minimum - 3.

I'd like to do twice that, though.

An id mismatch regarding what we enjoy about the characters, but I think I can work around that.

They wrote paragraphs of prompts for their other five fandoms but one very vague sentence for the one that we matched on. Thankfully it’s for a fandom that a lot of my friends are into so I’ll just bug a friend for a prompt and write that but it’s always a little upsetting to match on the fandom that was clearly added on at the end just because it’s something yuletide popular

I didn’t specifically game for my recipient but they were the only letter visible of my potential matches and I’m so glad I got them. Now I just have to dig up my old half written ideas and make them a real thing.

slash(?)

(Anonymous) 2019-11-05 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
If my recipient put in their likes “slash, het, and gen” and then requested two female characters for one fandom (but gave no prompts) can i safely assume their “slash” like includes f// or should I just do a gen out?

Can't help you sadly coalie but I'm in a painfully similar situation and want to know too.

I get to write porn for the first time in years! I'm stoked.

That feeling...

I would assume, but you can always ask via the mods.

Re: slash(?)

(Anonymous) 2019-11-05 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's perfectly fair to write f/f in those circumstances (provided the characters in question wouldn't make it incest or something equally niche), but personally I'm paranoid enough that I'd check with the mods.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-05 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Have they written/received/bookmarked f/f before?
