That feeling...

When your recip is a very good writer and the intimidation creeps up on you...

I’m having the same feeling. I matched with someone who has written a hundreds of fics and has like 200 gift fics on their ao3 and I already know I’m not going to live up to that

That doesn't necessarily say anything about the quality of their writing.

I have almost 300 fics in my profiles, and lots of gifts, but only because I've had the same fandom identity since the dinosaurs went extinct. It shouldn't be intimidating (unless 'oh man, they're ANCIENT' is intimidating to you, I guess :D).

Oh, same. I always thought this was a bit silly when other people talked about it before. Was not prepared for the intensity of my, "No, no, I can't write for them, I'm nobody!" when I saw my recip's name this morning.

Yeah, exactly this. This is the first year I've matched to someone I know and it's quietly terrifying.

(On the plus side, their prompt is AWESOME and pretty much exactly what I was hoping for when I offered those characters to begin with.)

Yeah this. Not a lot of fic but one of them won Yuletide. At least, our ids match?

People who are good writers also like getting gifts for Yuletide!

Would it help to go look through their comments on some of their earlier gifts? I find that sometimes helps me. Seeing someone leave an enthusiastic comment on something with bad SPAG or whatever because it's about the ship/character/fandom they love always reminds me that we're here for stories about things we love. Your gift doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be about the things they love.

My recip is an amazing writer and wrote me something I loved last year. Which is why when I saw their letter I offered the fandom we had in common - I didn't game for it - but now I have to live up to my vague ideas of "something so awesome to properly reward them for that great gift!"

I had this one year, when my recip was a close friend, but on the other hand that friend is the best fic writer I know so it was also intimidating, lol.
