This is literally what you did here when you shared quotes from the mod discord with coaltide. People talking about someone who isn't in the room by specifically disagreeing the gift they received doesn't require an EPH replacement isn't bullying. Even what EO said wasn't bullying, it was just being a raging dick which is consistent with everything else EO does. OP bullied the recip by playing the "guess what everyone's saying about you behind your back" game but OP is anonymous and couldn't be bothered to speak up during the conversation.

They're not the real villain, but it's a ESH situation (well, everyone except the recip). Bitching about a recip who did nothing wrong in mod discord is shitty, randos chiming in to call the recip a liar is super shitty, no one speaking up to say "hey, this is shitty, can we stop" is shitty, and silently watching it all unfold without speaking up and instead coming to coal to say "LOLOLOL, look at those misbehaving mods" is also shitty.

I see once again we have people desperately trying to spin this whole thing as "it's not bullying to insult people behind their back from positions of mild hobby power, it's only bullying to let the victim know they're being insulted." It's not going to work, because that's transparently wrong to anyone and everyone.

It's also very strange how this keeps being repeated all of a sudden now when no one shared this sentiment before. Almost like someone was caught with their pants down and now wants to convince all of us that it's actually the latest fashion.

As someone that hasn’t been posting to these threads. I’ve mostly been rolling my eyes at how deeply offend people have been about what feels like a minor ‘mods being mods’ situation in a locked community. It’s probably because I have a generally low opinion of the people and I’m always surprised by good mods that are well socialized and can handle things delicately.

There is one person for sure trying to play the ‘it’s all a misunderstanding’ card. But I think most of this backlash is because not everyone is invested the way you are at this level of intensity. Calls for naming everyone leaving an emote isn’t helping.

Also the wank is getting dry and crusty, so if I was an asshole who wanted to keep this wank gushing jizz all over flat view this is the perfect time to switch tactics or sides.

Maybe we're different people then, because I do generally expect people to not be this nasty in not-really-private groups of over a hundred members. EO was by far the worst about it, but the mod making fun of their own participant's request is nasty too.

I’m glad that we think different on this topic to be honest. Someone should be expecting better of people.

However once you get past 50 comments on the same dry minor talking point my eyes just glaze over and I start wondering ‘wasn't coal made so people didn’t have to be the cult of nice all the time?’ and I check out of the wank.

Agreed about the calls to name everyone who left a reaction. In a sense, I don't think the names matter - this situation has changed how I'll be approaching exchanges either way. Unlike you, my default assumption has always been that the average mod has manners and will behave politely if I'm being polite to them. This will no longer be the case.

Thankfully, I don't often have reasons to contact mods.

We have different levels of tolerance and expectations. I don't think I can necessarily judge you, but I believe it's necessary to extend generosity to people who have been blindsided, insulted, or lied to (not just the recip, think of the early posts in this thread that boil down to 'this totally didn't happen' 'it was only one asshole,' so on and so forth).

I don't want all 18/16/whatever initial +1s to be named. I want the mod who gave the ship & fandom (and effectively the recip's name,) and the mods who talked afterwards to be named. Considering the circumstances, I think that's pretty fair.

Not sure I would call it fair. What would it bring besides more wank? I do think the recip have a right to know, but I don't believe we all do... That's just calling for a witch hunt for something we're not involved in.

It'd bring them accountability, for one thing. Wanky, yes, public record of their wankiness. The recip's name/reputation has already been dragged through the mud, it's not OK to keep the ones who dragged them about anonymous.

Even if OP posted the quotes out of a desire to wank and nothing else, I for one am glad they did. It's good to know how people talk where hundreds if not thousands of participants can't see them, and it's good to see how they go about making decisions. You don't get to whine about your bad behavior coming to light - that's just whining that there's consequences for your actions.

I am also glad that we know that adastreia shared pinch hit email details to the whole mod server in the process of insulting a participant in their exchange who asked for an EPH, to which EdosianOrchids901 responded by calling the participant a greedy liar who just wanted more fics and then flounced from the mod server when someone pushed back on the 'liar' part. And also that we know that 18 mods supported adastreia's treatment of their participant.

Just want to sum this up so that the whistleblower troll doesn't smokescreen the facts off of recent view for the looky-loos from bfe.
