I don't think it's that big a deal - few people are genuinely so hard to squick that they can do that kind of close reading on absolutely any gift without issue, and EPHs or other issues that require close reading are comparatively rare. Having a co-mod is desirable, but asking someone else to jump in to co-mod if and when that actually happens is also a perfectly valid approach.
