Dunk on participants... by name? Please say no.

IME it's rarely by name but it's often like this. Mod complains about someone in enough detail that you can identify the participant, if you can be bothered to spend a few minutes clicking around. In this case, the recip was never mentioned by name, but it only took me three clicks to find them based on information that was shared in chat.

I find most mods aren't that specific when they complain or ask for advice. I'm not even canon familiar and I was able to find what they were talking about. :/

Some mods are better about it than others. Ashling was terrible for it, I find Leaf really bad for it also. EO and River aren't great.

Yeah, I'd bring it up to the server owner. And gently push back next time someone starts to give details that aren't necessary to resolve their issue

The server owner participated in the conversation, so.

They did (though more at the end, and they were on the side of the person who pushed back against calling the recip a liar), but it's still worth bringing it up to them. They've set lines for people before on what's allowed to be discussed and that's really the only thing they 'mod' there, so it's worth asking them to tighten that up.

DC I also find she has a tendency to overshare, she definitely uses it as a vent space. It's odd because it's not like she doesn't have friends she can DM, she's very well-integrated into the community.

That's true, she's definitely on topic. I guess I just avoid monopolizing servers to monologue about whatever's on my mind, however relevant it is, because I'm... not talkative.

No, it's pretty rare for anyone to be mentioned by name, and if someone is just venting to vent (as opposed to asking a question about how to deal with something) that usually gets shut down even if it's vague.

The only time people are named are if it's a situation where other mods genuinely need to be warned about someone well beyond any normal exchange behavior (like a badly behaved sock drawer, or the bigots who got banned from a bunch of stuff earlier this year, or the person who posted their genitals to a random discord)
