Yikes, I'm the EPH commenter from earlier and if this is RelationShipping, there's a 99% chance it's me. I regret contacting the mod(s), I should've just sat on it and kept my concerns to myself. They totally shat the bed with this "sharing on discord" thing tho. I'll go back and comment on my gift later with a clear head because I genuinely appreciate the author for writing this fic for me regardless of my initial concerns. To reply to a worried coalie - I just checked the gift and it has a good kudos-to-hits ratios so author should be alright (unless some mod talked to them about it). Fic got comments and people kudosed, including a former (?) RelationShipping mod.

I don't have any History or past negative experiences with people in the exchange community, so I'll admit I'm curious about the person who bashed me and why they did so (provided this whole thing is actually about my gift lol).

Can you tell us why you had concerns?

You were never named, if it's you. Even the exchange wasn't named.

It was just a handful of people in the conversation and the whole thing was very vague on identity unless you already knew what they were talking about. The request to read the fic did not come with a link so I assume it was sent privately.

Did we read the same conversation? The mod vagued in sufficient detail that the work was immediately identifiable. And when someone said "Oh if you're talking about the X/Y fic in [Fandom]..." everyone went to to look and give their own opinion. There was little-to-no pushback, not even from the server mod.

The recip was never named, and the exchange was never named. But we all knew who was involved.

I didn't know who was involved, so no we all did not know who was involved. I still don't know who was involved!

I didn't see that particular comment though, so that could be part of why.

No, the exchange wasn't named, but when the Relationshipping Mod posts about an EPH, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the exchange just might be Relationshipping. Especially when there's ongoing talk of incest and a 500 word minimum. I don't know any other exchanges that fulfill both of those requirements.

And when one of the first replies is, "If it's the [fandom] [pairing type fic], then..." there's actually no need to name the recipient at that point, since they've already been identified. There's only one fic that fits the bill.

I'm not sure why you're downplaying something so egregious.

I would also like to know if this is for relationshipping, because I avoided that exchange because the new mod felt wanky to me and I’d like to see if I was right to avoid.

I feel so sorry for the recipient and the mod.

The recipient got a gift that gave them a bad feeling, and the mod asked for help because they were less experienced. It wasn't wise of them to give as many details as they did, but some other more experienced mods have also done that. The real bad behavior was from discord members who took everything in bad faith.

Their response to the initial "Is it this fic?" should have been to ask that person to delete their comment as it contains identifying information, and kept the discussion to DMs.
