"it's gonna be someone doing yuletide as intended"

Yuletide is not and never has been a gen exchange. And I'm sure the intention is to write something your recip will like, so you're wrong on there too.

You're right it isn't a gen specific exchange, but it also is not a ship exchange, and requesting only a ship particularly a crack pairing that people may not have anticipated anyone requesting may well end up with a gen fic. And that writer would be doing yuletide exactly as intended, writing for the requested fandom, including the characters they matched on.

CYRT

The difference here is neither I nor anyone else said it was a ship exchange or that those who only prompt for gen deserve to get spitefic.

o cyrt I will say it! If you DNW "all ships" you also deserve spitefic. Glad to help!

DC, but you did suggest that someone not writing what the person wanted, or not pleasing the recipient was not doing yuletide as intended and that is wrong, as a writer who fulfills the rules is doing yuletide as intended, and implying that they're doing yuletide wrong by not writing the crack ship is not correct.

Maybe bother to parent up first. The A AYRT RT was the one doing the ~suggesting in the first place, and on a hell of a lot more malicious level than merely saying you should try to write something your recip will like.

cyrt Look, last year I requested a rare crack slash ship in a secondary-world fantasy world. As usual when I want a rare crack ship, I said I'd love ship fic but gen fic about the two characters' canon relationship would also be good, and offered a couple of ideas, because it's Yuletide and in Yuletide your writer is explicitly not obligated to write you ship, and if you'd hate anything but ship, request something else.

I got a fic about one of my two characters discovering Jesus and becoming Saved.

I still don't think it was spitefic. It's yuletide, you roll the dice.

Uh, okay? Cool story, good for you, etc. But the ayrt never said a word about spitefic.
