Re: how evil would it be to request a crack rarepair?

If you put in only shippy requests and say you only want ship, you're asking for spitefic and if you get it you deserve it.

If you put in some fun gen options and also say you'd love ship... that's literally what yuletide is for, *especially* if it's a rare crack pairing, and if you get gen it is not going to be spitefic??? it's gonna be someone doing yuletide as intended?

"it's gonna be someone doing yuletide as intended"

Yuletide is not and never has been a gen exchange. And I'm sure the intention is to write something your recip will like, so you're wrong on there too.

You're right it isn't a gen specific exchange, but it also is not a ship exchange, and requesting only a ship particularly a crack pairing that people may not have anticipated anyone requesting may well end up with a gen fic. And that writer would be doing yuletide exactly as intended, writing for the requested fandom, including the characters they matched on.

CYRT

The difference here is neither I nor anyone else said it was a ship exchange or that those who only prompt for gen deserve to get spitefic.

o cyrt I will say it! If you DNW "all ships" you also deserve spitefic. Glad to help!

DC, but you did suggest that someone not writing what the person wanted, or not pleasing the recipient was not doing yuletide as intended and that is wrong, as a writer who fulfills the rules is doing yuletide as intended, and implying that they're doing yuletide wrong by not writing the crack ship is not correct.

Maybe bother to parent up first. The A AYRT RT was the one doing the ~suggesting in the first place, and on a hell of a lot more malicious level than merely saying you should try to write something your recip will like.

cyrt Look, last year I requested a rare crack slash ship in a secondary-world fantasy world. As usual when I want a rare crack ship, I said I'd love ship fic but gen fic about the two characters' canon relationship would also be good, and offered a couple of ideas, because it's Yuletide and in Yuletide your writer is explicitly not obligated to write you ship, and if you'd hate anything but ship, request something else.

I got a fic about one of my two characters discovering Jesus and becoming Saved.

I still don't think it was spitefic. It's yuletide, you roll the dice.

Uh, okay? Cool story, good for you, etc. But the ayrt never said a word about spitefic.

Why do people keep saying "if you write gen for someone who wants a ship, it's spitefic"?? That's just ODOA. Spitefic is a much more specific and rare thing than just going ODAO.

Re: how evil would it be to request a crack rarepair?

(Anonymous) 2025-09-17 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Because people have used "spitefic" to describe things that are not spitefic since the term entered use.

Re: how evil would it be to request a crack rarepair?

(Anonymous) 2025-09-17 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Because see above. They are convinced "yuletide is not a gen exchange" and if you don't write them exactly what they prompted, even if they only gave you one option, then you must hate them specifically.

(Anonymous) 2025-09-17 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you seriously stupid or what? The person saying all that nonsense about spitefic is the one claiming it isn't for ships at all.

I am that person and that's not what I said?

Yes, it is.

If you put in only shippy requests and say you only want ship, you're asking for spitefic and if you get it you deserve it.

if you get gen it is not going to be spitefic??? it's gonna be someone doing yuletide as intended?

1. If you expect to force your writer to write you ship you're doing it wrong.

2. If you request ship and get gen instead, your writer is not doing anything wrong.

Sorry I didn't think I needed to add in my original comment, because I thought it was a given,

3. If you say you'd like ship without excluding gen, and get ship, that's great! You both did things right.

I forgot coalies have persecution complexes and zero reading comprehension. It's been a year, my bad

???? How is this even a relevant reply? It's like you were proven a liar and then just started talking about something completely different while whining about how everyone else is so dumb and blah blah.

You can't literally say that people deserve to get spitefic if they only give shippy prompts and then try to blame "zero reading comprehension" when people call you out for it.

"people shouldn't only give shippy prompts and then get mad if they don't get ship" is not the same thing as "yuletide isn't for ships at all". Very different statements! Nobody here is saying that there should not be ships in yuletide at all. That's where the reading comprehension and persecution complex problems come in.

"It's okay that we didn't get a lollipop today even though we asked for one, don't throw a tantrum" != "let's ban all lollipops"

Re: how evil would it be to request a crack rarepair?

(Anonymous) 2025-09-17 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it isn't, but AGAIN that is not what you said. "If you put in only shippy requests and say you only want ship, you're asking for spitefic and if you get it you deserve it." Very different statements, indeed.

Re: how evil would it be to request a crack rarepair?

(Anonymous) 2025-09-18 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That sentence says nothing whatsoever about whether it's okay to request ship or write ship, as long as you don't say it's the only thing you want! "if you.... say you only want ship" is the operative statement there. You need to read the whole entire sentence at once, and then maybe learn about how logical statements work.

I will happily stand by saying that if you try to force your recip to write you ship and give them no other options other than odao, and then call it spite if you get odao, you deserve whatever you get, and I knew that would make certain people mad. This is a very different statement than "people shouldn't ever request ship". Please stop being mad about the thing nobody said! Be mad about what I actually said!

Nonny, earnestly, stop it already. You said something you maybe didn't fully mean, but you still said it. Just owe up to that fact instead of trying to lie about it; we can all see what you said.
