I've read a ton of omegaverse and it's almost always rapey in some way, meaning the threat of sexual violence is a major component of the "worldbuilding" (which is itself half-baked at best).

This is what I like the least about omegaverse fans. Speaking as someone who absolutely loves soaking wet pussy and sex pollen. Can you not just admit that the trope is weird and sexual? It's rapeworld idfic. Stop insisting it's normal or nonsexual. It's not any more normal or nonsexual than deranged sex pollen dubcon without dog dicks and that's FINE.

Ok there's two things going on here:

One is that there's always been a tension between people who do these AUs as weird porn, and people who see the world building, go oh that's a cool way to explore gender shit, and write it in ways that truly aren't about the weird porn.

This goes all the way back to the original directedverse in sga when there was an outright feud between fans of the original gratuitous kink porn story and fans of the gender-exploration world building spinoff (many of whom actively hated the kink porn story, and were hated in return.) Like it got tense enough we came within a few inches of fandom deciding nobody should be allowed to play in other people's AU ideas at all, and then where would omegaverse be??

Then on top of that, for people who are mostly in it for exploring gender in safe-feeling ways, people claiming it's all inherently weird sex shit sounds like you're saying that gender exploration is all inherently weird sex shit (and sometimes that is in fact what people are saying) which touches on transphobia sore spots, so they react badly, even if most of it does have weird sex shit.

But like. You shouldn't write it unrequested in yt either way.

In my current fandom probably 75% of the "omegaverse" is literally young trans dudes who want to write about their characters as men who have the kind of sex they have without wanting to think about being trans or have to do a bunch of original worldbuilding, a lot of it leaves out literally everything else about omegaverse that.

They aren't going to have a fainting spell if someone tells them about dogfuck rape world, but you do get how saying "your fic where dudes have vaginas and like to get fucked in them is all kinky bestiality rape shit" might come off as transphobic, right?

It goes back way further than directedverse, I remember similar Xena uber wanks.

But ultimately the trope is still weird sex shit. Some people use it to explore gender, sure, but you can't define the trope without the weird sex shit because that is literally the definition of the trope, there is no definition of omegaverse possible that doesn't include the weird sex shit.

People object to this because they're insecure about something that's important to them being called weird sex shit. I don't care. It's weird sex shit just like lifestyle BDSM is weird sex shit. That doesn't mean people are fucking 24/7, and if you interpret it that way...again, that's a personal problem.

Finally: it strikes me as unbelievably condescending to insist you can't describe omegaverse as a kink thing because it might hurt trans peoples' feelings. No. I reject this categorically. If you're being transphobic then you're being transphobic; "omegaverse is a kink premise with a lot of weird sex stuff that should be opt-in for an exchange" is not transphobia.
