My short list of DNM requests for Candyhearts was exclusively people I like where we mutually decided to DNM so we don't end up inevitably assigned to each other for our tiny shared fandoms and spoil the surprise part of it.
After looking at this comm, I'm having a very "oh you sweet summer child" reaction at myself.
CYRT In that this comm has shown me depths of wank I was blissfully unaware of
The best part was the fact that I freaking beta'd for someone on the 'frequent wankers' list in a recent exchange and though I had absolutely no clue of their history, it was enough to give me a minor beta crisis and make me turn to a friend to vent and to a mod for advice
Nothing too dramatic. Just a beta request that asked for feedback on several things except the one thing the story actually desperately needed, and after going to the mod for advice (I was pretty new to beta'ing), I stuck to what had been solicited and nothing else. Did my best, went on my way.
All things considered, I'm not surprised that the recip ended up rejecting the gift... And as beta I can't help but feel 1% bad for them even if it wasn't my fault. There, that's probably as detailed as I can be without going into de-anoning territory. I don't know how many people on the wank list regularly use betas, after all.
We'll see. A more fanwank-experienced friend of mine already warned me about someone I might end up matched with because they have a "reputation" for going with deliberately cracky interpretations of prompts and I was like "no it's fine I'm not expecting a masterpiece but lemme tighten my DNW a bit". Then after matching I got an email from the mods clarifying something about my DNWs that sounds like the author might end up playing dodgeball with them...
So I'm a little bit apprehensive hehe. But hopefully it'll be fine
