FFFX due date is in 10 days. Plenty of time after that to write 300 words, so there's really no reason not to sign up to both unless you've got burnout.
There IS a lot of burnout going on, though, whether fannish or IRL. We've only just come out of the holiday period and people are going back to work and busy with that. Plus there's been a few disappointing things happening in popular fandoms which has put a damper on stuff.
