This is someone who's got no letter, minimal DNWs, one prompt per fandom. It could be that you're right and the only thing they want is that one prompt per fandom - because after all, they could have written a lot more!

Or it could be that they're not someone who is interested in writing a 10000-word signup, they spent five minutes putting one prompt each in the optional details to give their writer a prompt if they want one, they selected the characters that were a good match for the prompt, and then picked the tag that made it clear they were open to other things if their author didn't want to follow a prompt.

Not everybody is so far up BFE's backdoor that they realize they need to spend an hour outlining in detail every possible story they might enjoy when they write their optional details that are optional.

It seems ironic to accuse someone of being "up BFE's backdoor" when that phrase itself implies its influence on you. And how did you see Goody Proctor, etc. We're on coal right now! Not ffa!


Anyway, what you say is possible and that's why I talked about risk, not certainty.

Plus I do know what you mean about the kind of signup where someone puts something in the box because they think they need to put something in the box, but isn't otherwise either invested in or skilled at putting something in the box.

I was not exempting myself! I could no longer write a sign up like that without overthinking everything. But ah, I recall the carefree unbesmirched days of my youth when I was still capable of believing that perhaps odao means odao.

And those are some excellent examples of a particular style of signup you've selected, but not the only one.

They were golden days. But I'm not sure I'd go back. I looked at the prompts I wrote for my first Yuletide mumbleyears ago, and did a full body cringe.
