I've never heard of this exchange! This seems pretty interesting. How does it usually work with it being any fandom not just fandoms that the recipient is aware of?

This is only the second year, but the idea is that the people signing up only do so if they really are willing to receive fandoms they don't know.

The point is the requesters put in prompts that are "bulletproof" - they'll enjoy them even if they don't know the fandom.

It’s for people who are willing to treat canons like OW (or to a lesser degree may possibly consume your canon to fully enjoy it) for a fix of their favorite tropes or dynamics.

It’s unlike WDLF or other “write whatever” author-focused exchanges in that recips are still expected to comment and rejecting isn’t an acceptable reaction.

For those who prioritize fandom over kinks/tropes, Little Black Dress [community profile] littleblackdressex will be held this spring and it works similarly but you match on a character and the author can pair them with whatever OTP they may have for them, depending on what genders you approve and if you opt into crossovers and thing.

No, rejecting is considered fine and normal. From the rules linked above:

in the event you are gifted something you don't want to read, you are also welcome to reject it. I encourage you to consider rejections in this exchange to be a consequence of the format, with no reflection on the quality, effort or moral fiber of the author, and no judgment of the recipient.

I consider myself corrected. Was I thinking of kink lucky dip?

To be fair, I think rejecting in this exchange is a bit much. Don't sign up if you really don't actually "bulletproof" tropes that you will read regardless of any other context. You sign up with the understanding that you'd be into anything with only a tiny amount of DNWs!

I half agree, but I think it goes both ways on assuming good faith. Authors should gift whatever they want as long as it hits one of the bulletproof tropes and doesn't hit dnws. Recips should assume best intentions from the author, but reject whatever they don't want, and authors shouldn't take that badly if it happens. No hard feelings either way.

I think that's the intended spirit of the thing. If you as an author are going to be mad at someone for refusing a gift, then this is not the exchange for you. It's an adventure for both recipient and author.
