Eh. In general, every treat that isn't spitefic is a good thing because it's an extra. The alternative isn't something longer and better; it's nothing.

I'm generally not thrilled to see authors describe their works as mediocre. Especially when it's a gift work and it's still over a month and a half until reveals. If you feel what you write is mediocre by your own standards, then why don't you polish it until you're happy with it? This isn't even about how the recip feels about the fic; it's about how you feel posting something that's mediocre with your name attached.
