Re: Madness hypothetical
(Anonymous) 2021-11-05 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)No. Both for mediocrity and or length.
I don't want to have to pretend to like a boring, ugly, itchy sweater of a fic even though social convention demands a return display of gratitude.

(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 04:11 am (UTC)(link)I've been doing yuletide since 2008. I write and edit professionally. (At this point he main reason I'm still in YT at all is nostalgia.)
I don't read fic shorter than 1k because it's rare a story of that length has anything worth saying in it.
I don't read mediocre/badfic on purpose and I don't want to pretend to like a gift that's badfic to me just because someone found my signup in the app and put my name on the gift tag.

(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think you need to DNW fic under 1k in an exchange where the minimum is 1k.
Re: Madness hypothetical
(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)In an exchange with an established collection for shorter treats, and a culture of gifting shorter treats including drabbles, it isn't a bad idea. If you wouldn't even bother to read my shorter story, I don't really want to gift it to you. DNW it and we'll both be happier

(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 11:40 am (UTC)(link)The question was "would you be happy with a 200 word mediocre fic?"
I answered no, because it would be coal for me. Y'all are being absurdly cult of nice about it.
Re: Madness hypothetical
(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)It's called "being polite" and it costs nothing, coalie.
Re: Madness hypothetical
(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)And I hate the "more cake" analogy
I never said I wouldn't be polite if someone gave me coal. I said I wouldn't want the gift and that I'd rather not receive it. As an answer to the question "would you want this?"

(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)In your opinion, of course.
Re: Madness hypothetical
(Anonymous) 2021-11-06 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)That is implied due to the fact that I said it. Congratulations on your reading comprehension.
