I, uh, skimmed that when I was doing my letter review because it was so long and now I uh, think I should dock points...

OMFG. This letter is the wildest I've seen so far this year. Some highlights:

-Just FYI, I subscribe absolutely to 'heteronormative dom/sub roles' and I also have certain types when it comes to my fictional men.

-General likes: All kinds of AUs, interesting twists on canon (except AUs that make canonically male characters female or canonically white characters non-white. But I DO want AUs that make canonically female characters male--like I said, I'm all about the slash ;)

-General DNWs: Modern Western genders, sexualities, (e.g. transsexual characters, etc.) and discussion thereof. Fictive/fantastic/historical/non-Western is fine, so long as it's not just a thin cloak for the former)

-Also, if hair/skin colour is mentioned, the top/Dom MUST be lighter than (or at least the same as) the sub/bottom. Facial hair (apart from light stubble) or heavy body hair on either partner is a no-no.

-No tops/doms consuming cum or getting cummed on tho, please.

-Mental illness(es), and doing interesting/scary/sexy things with them, not just having them be a diversity point to get pity for a character (WTF???)

-I'm down with mpreg up to and including childbirth (and water-breaking), but please avoid gross details of umbilical cords/placentas, etc.

and then:

-But there is some intersection of violence/injury and sex that I can tolerate, even enjoy. For instance if the Dom amputated the sub's limbs and came on the stumps, that would be hot. If he amputated, say, his nose or ears--squick. Having sex while one of the parties is bleeding out from mortal wounds=hot. Actual woundfucking or skull (i.e. eye-socket) fucking would be too far. If a sub were snuffed by being thrown into a giant blender or something=ick. But if he were snuffed by being forced down onto a cock as big as him=hot?

Okay, I've definitely seen that last paragraph before. IDK where.

That last example is certainly something.

It's so absolutely useless as examples. I believe and respect that someone would find some of those hot and some of those not hot, but as guidance as to which OTHER thing the person finds hot or not hot, or as to how to write the hot ones without crossing a line - nope.

I do not get that at all. In the most charitable possible terms, is it an attempt to avoid stereotypical race kink where the person with the darker skin is the dominating one with a big cock? They've requested specific characters in specific configurations, surely that covers it???

Same. I didn't think it was possible, and yet...

This letter is gonna linger in the pinch hits for so long.

I wish it would but a lot of people don't check the letters and the fandoms aren't nonexistent

my bet is they match to someone who doesn’t want porn or who has gen prompts and so they default, and then their author defaults so they end up with nothing, or their author goes odao and they get a fic that doesn’t have porn/slash and so they effectively got nothing

They also give a gen out right at the beginning, so coalies' outrage seems very performative and very "someone asks for things we don't like, how dare they".

I'd happily write for them, if I knew any of their fandoms (but I don't, and they're not mediums I enjoy, alas).

Not to a degree I couldn't write for them. Some of their kinks squick me a lot, but some are RTMI.

And generally speaking I think "ask for what you want" (even when what you want is niche) is a good guideline for an exchange letter, and this person even goes out of their way to assure their author that they're also fine with other things (which, honestly, is nothing I do - ODAO, but I'm not going to encourage you to give me gen fic). It's not like they're saying "write me a racekink toddlercon AU or you'll ruin my Yuletide", so I'm kind of boggling at all this handwringing.

They do have a gen out, but strongly and repeatedly remark they want/prefer slash. So it's not like they are trapping their writer, but it's very very close.

also Charioteer is set during WWII and Michael Dillon, Roberta Cowell, and Christine Jorgensen were all around then...

On top of being an asshole this person is just plain wrong. Pre-20th-century trans identities aside, the 1940s were a big deal for developments in gender-affirming care and Michael Dillon's personal history and indeed transition history is in fact intimately tied to WWII in a way that would make a fascinating Charioteer fic for a non-wanky recipient. (His phalloplasty surgeon was Harold Gillies, who's probably best known for his efforts to surgically reconstruct the faces of injured servicemen during both World Wars, and that particular demand on Gillies' services delayed Dillon's care. Dillon's writing about identity, desire, and social stigma also makes for a neat compare-and-contrast with all the very Renaulty themes of the novel.)

What's blowing my mind: a list of like 30 kinks, most of which are some variation on violent abuse, and then "Cuddling!!!". Yes, with three exclamation points.

Look, they know what they like.
