This is Yuletide, everybody make a scene

I am the sock with the tear-away face
Low-effort with your gift and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who does an exchange without acknowledging their gift?"
I am the wanker blowing through your fics comments
I am the coalie dragging your letter at night
Filling your exchange to the brim with fright!

I like short prompts a lot. I start scrolling when letters or prompts go on and on and on. Remember to always dial down coal's complaints by like 100 because either it's an offhand comment that means almost nothing and the person forgets it as soon as they hit Post Comment, or it's from someone who OBSESSES over yuletide every year and is in the minority anyway.

I'm really considering it. The only reason I ever wrote a letter was it became expected and to put my DNWs. Then everyone swapped over to only DNWs in the prompt box counting anyway, and I can throw a few prompts in with those anyway. I have at least twenty letters from other exchanges that people are welcome to read for my general preferences.

Just to add another data point, my AO3 is technically a sock in that I don’t link my fannish identity and social media with it, but it’s the only one I write on, and it only has exchange fics because I haven’t posted anything else in years. My DW is just exchange letters (well, those and recipes that are set to me-only visibility).

I have some of the same concerns as you, but it shouldn’t be a big deal.

Why is AO3 piping so deeply stupid?

DA but I agree. I was signing up for SW rare pairs recently and swore repeatedly under my breath every time "CT-27-5555 | Fives | ARC-5555" came up because what the FUCK.

Sometimes I don't even wanna know where to look for my anime fandoms in a tagset.

Presumably because it cuts down on dumbass trolls and people otherwise using anon to be assholes.

Death in the family one year, and a complete harddrive failure at an incredibly inconvenient time another year.

I know he's a fictional character, but it seems weirdly insulting to Fives' humanity to put his clone serial number before his fucking name.

I had assumed Sonic the movie was too big, I took a look and it still qualifies :( I should have nominated it, very few of the Robotnik/Stone fic is to my taste.

I'm basically the same. Sometimes I wonder if people think I'm a sock, but if they do they must at least see me as a well established one now, since I've been doing this for so long. I've just never felt comfortable with putting up a LJ/DW/Tumblr whatever because I don't know anyone, so who would want to read it? I have a LJ, but it's only for my exchange letters. I know I could get to know people in namespace, but I'm shy and have low self esteem, so I find the idea of reaching out to strangers terrifying.

I hate it so much. Just use one name! Syn the rest if you have to!

I also hate character tags that put obvious nicknames in quotes. No shit that a Samantha might go by Sam, her tag doesn't need to be Samantha "Sam" LAST_NAME

TBH you sound like an asshole. "You only deserve a fic written for your prompts and likes if you have sufficient social media presence to satisfy me, the ruler of the universe" is a shitty take. It's a fic exchange, not a friending meme.

Coalie, if an essay-length letter isn't enough to give you an idea of what your recip is looking for, you're not competent enough to be participating in exchanges.

jsyk "If you don't have social media accounts linked to your AO3 that I can stalk, you'll get a crap fic from me" is not a good look.

+10000

I had someone criticize me for reblogging one of my exchange fandoms much more than the others. One was a popular TV show, the other was a five minute fandom of one (not these fandoms, but think The Good Place vs. a They Might Be Giants song with no music video). I'm really not sure how I was meant to go about keeping that balanced.

NC But then there would be wank on which name was the correct name, although I’m sure similar wank also happens with current piping. And the quotes is a common way to put nicknames IME.

Yeah, but I think there’s a difference between James “Bucky” Barnes and Samantha “Sam” Carter (or whatever CYRT was referring to)

I'd just start a new fandom identity. I've had to do it a few times now because of an IRL stalker so I definitely get where you're coming from. Each time I do my first exchange on a new account I know some people will think I'm a sock and avoid me, but it's never prevented me from getting a gift.

Or you could just treat and not worry about your signup at all.

I've done similar to avoid a stalker. The account I'm doing yuletide on this year doesn't have much, and the linked tumblr and twitter have sporadic bouts of activity, but when I've done it before I've never had an issue with not getting fic. The last time I had to switch accounts I got a bunch of treats as my letter got recced a few times so honestly I wouldn't worry about it too much.

All the clones have their serial numbers first, and annoys me both from an in-universe perspective (they're people! They deserve names, not just numbers!) AND an out of universe one (I will literally never look for ct-27-5555 over Fives).
