Another reject:

I haven't played the whole game yet, but I don't see anything glaringly wrong with it?

I checked and the recip asked for just Abraham, with no unrequested pairings, but they got Abraham/Cardia.

I don't know anything about the game so I don't know if it was an unreasonable request in some way, but it does look like the fic violated a DNW.

Are you sure? I'm looking at the request summary now (page 45 by fandom if anyone else wants to check) and it says they requested Abraham and Cardia, and mentioned they wanted either het or gen. I tried to see if the letter was different, but it looks to have been deleted now.

I looked on the app, and it only has one character (Abraham) on there. Not sure what's happened there then!

I'm looking at the app and it shows both Abraham and Cardia. I'm not sure what you're seeing?

You're totally right. The way it was displayed on my phone made it look as though there was one character with the name Abraham Van Helsing (Code: Cardia Beckford Realize). Turning my phone to landscape shows it was just a formatting thing, my bad. I assumed the Cardia thing was the name of the edition of the game.

Ready to finally end the redhead, Van pulled out his gun and pointed it at him. So what if he messed up the dining table in the process, he could simply reimburse Saint the cost. Whatever price it was would be more than worth making this idiot finally shut up.

Fortunately for Impey, Cardia stepped up and placed her gloved hand on Van's arm and started to lower his hand. "Now now… let's calm down… please?" She pleaded as she looked into Van's eyes with a faintly nervous smile.

Albeit reluctant, Van put away his gun at Cardia's request, however he continued to glare at Impey.

"He's whipped…" Lupin mumbled as he watched the scene from his seat, though his quietly spoken words did not go unheard by Van, who redirected his attention towards the thief.

The writing could be improved, but it feels well-meaning to me? Lots of epithets, lots of circling around the same exaggerated drama, and many punctuation mistakes, but if that's all that's wrong with it, rejecting seems like an overreaction. It's cute.

A lot of the story seems to involve one character being teased by the others. Maybe that was the kind of humiliation the author DNW'd, rather than, say, sexual humiliation?

Possibly? In that case they really should be clearer though. If I was that writer I would want to know what the issue was tbh because it seems like a totally good faith fic.

Another theory: the recipient is the person who went to the mods to ask if they had permission to reject a gift for bad SPAG.

Wow, that thread was a trip.

If that's the case here, I definitely feel bad for the writer.

Well, great. I wanted to reject my "gift" but if people are still scrutinizing the collection to this degree I guess I never can. Thanks a lot.

What was wrong with it?

Re: Early Rejects

Presumably there's always a possibility that someone will click onto a fic they are interested in and notice that it's in a yuletide collection but doesn't have a recip.

If you have a reason though then there isn't any need to worry.

If the op doesn't want the scrutiny/attention/judgment (which definitely happened here) then I understand that they feel they can't ever do it, and it seems wrong to me to tell them not to worry as long as they have a 'good reason'.

Re: Early Rejects

(Anonymous) 2020-01-15 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The point still stands though that there's never going to be a "safe" time to reject a gift because someone could always notice.

I agree that it would be better not to bring up rejections after this much time, but it's never going to be guaranteed that nobody will notice and that nobody will talk about it so to act as though this person has ruined things for them and that they would otherwise have been safe is a bit ott.

I didn't get that impression from their comment at all. It was just an annoyed vent that someone was still tracking the collection and posting on Coal about it despite the fact that we're in mid-January now. Your point of how someone could always notice is true, but is also, well, missing the point. It's one thing for someone to randomly notice, another to be keeping a watchful eye and deliberately trying to get the comm to dissect whether the recip had a so-called good enough reason to reject.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-15 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 from someone who thinks that any reason a recip might have is good enough, and really dislikes this trend of judging whether they have the right to decide what's on their gift page.

You have an extremely low bar for "drama queen".

Just wait until after Chocolate Box reveals when whatever wank we have from that is distracting.

It takes a while for Yuletide to be over because it's such a huge collection that a lot of us are still reading and commenting on things we originally marked to read.
