Is it a faux pas to write a fic and include in an endnote that you're hoping to write more? Isn't that basically admitting that your fic is unfinished?

It's a faux-pas if you're like, "I plan to write a more fleshed out version of this later!" or anything that implies the author only got this version because you ran out of time.

It's probably okay if you just talk about wanting to turn this into a series building on the premise if it's some kind of AU or if you're hoping to write a sequel or something.

Yeah, I would say it's kind of a faux pas. Though it's not the same as admitting the fic is unfinished, it does make the recip hope for something that may or may not come, and is not there right now. Better to let the fic sit by itself.

I think it depends on what you mean and how you say it, because the example the coalie above me gave is definitely What Not To Do. Don't make it sound like what you've written is in any way incomplete or not what you would have written if you'd had more time.

If you wrote something and it was an AU and you mentioned something about continuing the verse, I wouldn't think that would be so bad. A lot of times, even if I'm thinking it, I let commenters bring up writing more rather than propose it myself.

If the fic is finished and writing it makes you want to write more in that fandom or continue the story later, I think it's perfectly fine to say that you enjoyed writing it so much you might write a sequel later or something like that. A sequel, not "more," because that gives the impression that it's unfinished. But unless you're already planning a sequel and/or really will write it, I wouldn't bother.

The only way to do it is to phrase it like “Recip I loved your letter so much. I feel like I could write all of your prompts! (There may or may not be a draft document open already...)” or something.

If the recip hates the fic they can politely ignore it/talk around it, and if they loved it they can be like omg!!!!! please write me all the things!!!!!

Please don't say the draft document thing either, unless you are really truly sure you'll follow through.

It's a faux pas (but not against the rules) because the chances of the author following through on it are rather small. Also see all those exchanges where you can gift unfinished stories, where the majority never sees another chapter, let alone the entire work.

Don't hint at more fic to come. Let them be pleasantly surprised if additional fic actually materializes.

Don't put it in the endnote, that makes them feel like they got incomplete fic. Put it in your reply to their comment - that way they get to think they inspired you to do more rather than you just not having finished!
