What an unexpected gift that was.

♫ On the first day of Yuletide, the Yulemods gave to me broken anonymity... ♫

Does anyone have an up to date invite link for the Exchanges After Dark discord?

Yuletide Admin Post:

Hello, Yuletiders–as you may have noticed, the anonymous setting on the Yuletide collection, which should hide all author names until reveals on January 1st, does not seem to be working as expected, and shortly after our planned works reveals, we had an unplanned reveal of author names. We’re very sorry for this unexpected breaking of anonymity!

We’re reaching out to AO3 to help us resolve the problem. In the meantime, we have updated all works manually, and author names should now be hidden again. If you notice we have missed any, please reach out to us privately at yuletideadmin@gmail.com.

Again, our apologies–and we hope you enjoy the collection!

Yuletide Madness is scheduled to reveal at 9 PM UTC on 25 December, but this may be delayed if necessary to ensure author anonymity.

I hope all the whiners who threw hissy fits about the change in reveal time finally realize how entitled they were. Do we really think the mods would have been able to resolve this within the hour if there weren't so many online at the time of reveals?

That scans so pleasingly well.

How did you do?

Talk up (or down, I guess) your gifts, coalies!

Should be good indefinitely. (https://discord.gg/s2fbynvTKx)

I was an early pinch hit and was expecting to get fic for my five minute fandom but instead someone wrote me the backstory fic for a fandom I've been asking for for like five years, and it's really, really good. :DDDDD

One fic, no treats, that I was initially disappointed with on first shake (shortly before deadline) before I realized there was one prompt it might be for where the relationship tags would make sense and I would be happy. It picked up a couple hundred words after that to land around 1.5k and was, in fact, the iddy, silly prompt I was consoling myself with thoughts of. I have left a gleeful comment already, and hope that's enough, because I fully don't expect anyone but me to have an interest in this fic.

I wrote one fic, no treats, stuck it in the anon collection during deanongate, and am a little tempted to just leave it there, pending feedback. There's one other fic in the same fandom and we landed on similar themes in different generations, so I hope the unexpected synergy is seen as a boon and not, like, a competition.

I'm like a third of the way into my long gift, and it's already so good. The shorter gift also looks amazing.

Maybe if the mods hadn't been doing this at an unusual time, one of them wouldn't have fucked up so catastrophically by pushing the wrong button...

(Anonymous) 2025-12-24 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Much appreciated!

It is absolutely what happened. It's not a glitch any more than it was a glitch when Tavina tried to lie about that in battleship to cover her ass. LOL

Wild!

Missed the excitement myself, but I hope my subscribers enjoy my Yuletide efforts early this year!

This has never failed me so far: if I'm a pinch hit, I'm going to end up with something great. Bless you, anonymous-writer-whose-name-I-totally-didn't-see. This was not my easiest prompt this year, I didn't expect to get it at all, and they nailed it.

Nothing funnier than someone being confidently wrong. There are multiple comments stating that the collection was anonymous originally, then later they began to reveal. I myself experienced this. But keep dying on that hill!

You want so badly for the mods to be innocent but they fucked up. Sorry for your loss.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-24 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Meanwhile, I still don't know who wrote for me, because they pre-emptively put their work in the Anonymous collection and didn't get caught out like the rest of us. Well played, Mister Bond!

+1 lmao

Intentional author reveals wouldn't have left us still anonymous in the story listings.
