My guess is they didn't (no acknowledgement but they've kudos'd other fics)

If they haven't commented on other fics they might be waiting till they can comment, some people freak out over a kudos but no comment. You can't win.

NGL, stuff like this is one of the reasons I'm barely reading anything but my gift in exchange collections anymore. Back in the days of Yuletides past, I used to spend a few days reading and I always started with old nostalgia fandoms I had no strong feelings about, then stuff I felt vaguely fannish about etc. and I kept my gift for last because it was the thing I was most excited for. In practice that meant that I would comment on dozens of fics before I got to my gift (but I always commented within the anon period), but it also meant I commented on dozens of fics.

I know this is my own fault for hanging out on coal and meme, but I've become so paranoid about my author seeing those comments and concluding "surely nonnie must hate what I wrote for her" that I'm not doing that anymore.

Yeah. I've actually had someone start a wank about me for commenting outside of my gifts first. I'd love to say I just went "fuck them actually" and shrugged it off, but it did permanently sour reading big collections for me and made me feel uncomfortably perceived in the order I engage with gifts in. I still often read outside of my gift first but now I feel stressed about it (and often don't end up doing much reading at all, and comment on my gift late in the anon period, to boot). So I feel you.
