I was at least expecting a few obsessives to have hunted up known bad apples' fics while they could but we're speculating as much as ever today so I guess we were all being good??

I think it was just too early on. Nobody had really had a chance to read anything yet and spot the really coally fics ready to look up who the authors were, so people probably mostly just saw who wrote their own gift or the ones in their main fandoms and whether it was one of the usual expected writers. Plus some people got early subscription emails, but that would have been from authors they already liked enough to subscribe to so not that likely to unveil any wankiness.

(TBH I was online when it went down and didn't even refresh my own gift to see who it was by, I was too busy looking at random works pages and the fics I'd written myself, going, "Oh, yeah, they really are all starting to deanon themselves, haha what the fuck?" and hanging around the coal and FFA threads to see if anyone had the scoop on what caused the fuckup.)

I clicked on my gift before it went anonymous, and by the time I was done reading and commenting the whole thing was over and everything was re-anoned. I wouldn't be surprise if a lot of people who were there at reveals were similarly occupied.

I was on and only found out there was an issue when the archive send me a message that my story has been set to anonymous by the mods, which I considered a weird email cause all Yuletide stories I had open where anonymous and therefore went back to reading Yuletide stories.
