They already deal with an entire world that assumes they can hear and has inadequate accommodations for anyone who can't. It'd be nice if their purported gifts didn't make those exact same assumptions.

It's not the worst thing ever obviously. But it fails the basic criteria of a gift, something the giver should take reasonable care to ensure it will be pleasant to receive.
